That goes to what I said, he changed his jet and is throwing more fuel to it so he needs more air and if the air makes it lean it runs hotter but doesn't use more fuel? It will only use the fuel that the jet allows to go to the engine based on the throttle. If he runs it wide open in 50F weather it will get better MPG than running it wide open in 95F weather. A hot engine slows down, works harder and does not optimize the fuel to it's best HP/RPM curve = less MPG.
When it comes to engine temp the middle is the best MPG area, not too cold or too hot. What gets me is folks who jet too big, even though they can make it run well with adjustments and actually gain nothing.
How many times have you seen a lower jetted carb adjusted correctly run the same speed as a higher jetted carb adjusted correctly also? We both know the intake only allows so much fuel, more than that is just wasted time.

Nice post now fix it so we can read it Alleyoop Man I don't have a clue as to what happened? Maybe V5 had a brain fart? It was so garbled I couldn't read it? All I'm saying is engines running hotter work harder = less MPG.
I also agree with lowering the jet, if it'll run at max speed/rpm with a lower jet it's very possible in colder temps he's just running fuel out the tail pipe. Best MPG temps are in a range of 60F to 85F also depending on sea level and humidity.
JR
It had a weird "requote%" right in the middle, it was a brain fart. But I fixed it for my pals. Mr. Sleep head JR just went to bed instead of fixing it! You're welcome! Rich

yes, and TW is an exact example of it. hopping on different forums using different usernames to spread the bad smell of another forum. not a good practice.
I don't find the top statement amusing or helpful.

twowheeler: The truth is after watching forums come and go for the last 6 years, there are a few guys that provide the major support for almost all the informative forums. You know the guys, some are admins on multiple forums. Pretty much most of the useful information comes from these few guys. The difference between forums are the regular members. How do they interact? Do they treat new members nicely? Are there frequent posters that use the forum to amuse themselves at the expense of others by spreading incorrect information? Not all forums are equal. The tech info is the same. The members make the difference.
Case in point: We use regular oil during break in, not because it allows more wear, we use it because it is cheap to dump during break in. Why dump $8/qt oil when you can dump $2/qt oil? It is going to get dumped one way or the other.
SAE offers classes, so does API.
Some truth to what you say here but here is what gets me? I don't find it amusing when someone has a problem, something to say, something they don't like, etc. and instead of trying to resolve the problem, etc. where the thread started they go to "another" forum no matter if some are on all the forums or not and air out what they don't like elsewhere.
Got something to say about any subject here then by all means let's hear it but remember some people frequent only one forum and could care less what's going on at another and sharing info that is useful and informative is great but complaining about what you don't like elsewhere is off base and not necessary.

I love the thread title but don't feel that way. Ok so you've did all this and plug is dry? So the only way this happens is: No gas in tank If it has fuel pump it is bad or has no vacuum to it ( more than one thing can cause this) If it is gravity feed with a vacuum petcock, it's bad, stopped up or has no vacuum Carb intake manifold is sucking air, due to poor engine seal or is cracked or not fitting tightly around carb Carb is stopped up (low speed jet) or just screwed up period. Now myself and each to his own, I have never will I never rattle my brains over a cheap Chinese scooter carb when I can buy one off the net for under $30, heck I have seen specials and bought one for under $20. www.ebay.com/itm/26mm-Sunl-150-Carburetor-150cc-GY6-Carb-4-Stroke-Chinese-Scooter-Moped-157-NEW-/141246789431?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e2f6f737&vxp=mtrLastly since you say the plug in dry? Check to see if the carb even has any gas in the carb bowl, if not then it's not the carb but possibly one of the things I mentioned on the above list? Your valve adjustment is important, poorly set can mean no vacuum and if that is happening, you'll keep a dry plug. JR
