Yesterday morning, we were headed out to the mall and drove by the state fairgrounds. I saw a couple scoots pull out of there and made some smart-assed remark to the wife about how there must be a scooter convention in town and my invitation got lost in the mail. Later in the afternoon, I actually was granted furlough for an hour or so to go for a ride. Completely forgetting about the scooters I saw earlier in the day, I decided to take a cruise through the fairgrounds to see the progress being made on some renovations. Holy Smokes!!! I couldn't tell if it was a Shriner's convention, or some vintage scooter thing, but there were scooters EVERYWHERE! I'd bet there were 500 scooters in that place, half of them on the road. It was a true Vietnam-style scooter experience.

Couldn't have gone better, Pete. I misunderstood the guy in regard to the duffle bag. He actually had a soft sided Remington gun case, which I would prefer anyway. Saturday morning, my daughter and I headed south of here a few miles and met the dude in a parking lot. As promised, he had all the state-required paperwork ready to go. The shotgun is as described, brand new. I couldn't be happier. Generally speaking, gun people are good people and this was no exception. Shotgun, soft case, 150 shells (100 @ 7 1/2 shot and 50 @ 6 shot), and the cardboard box, choke tool, trigger lock, and warranty registration paperwork.

I'm with ya, JR. I feel like it's a pretty fair trade. When you consider I only paid $250 for the gun (long story) brand new, I think I'm definitely the winner here.
I ended up making the deal with the guy. Swap guns, plus I'm getting 150 rounds of Winchester bird shot, a Remington duffle bag, and I'm driving 20 miles round trip instead of 90 to make the trade. I'm meeting him in a couple hours. I'll post pics and let ya'll know how things go when I get back home.

I'd definitely use the shotgun more. I enjoy hunting and skeet shooting, but my only shotgun crapped out a few years ago so I've been doing without. I like my 40 a lot; I just don't use it. I don't get to the range much and fortunately I don't have a home invasion problem I have to handle regularly. I think I just might go for it.

Hey guys, I need some input here.
I have a S&W M&P 40, nearly brand new. I've put less than 200 rounds through it. It's in clean as a whistle, mint condition and comes with the original plastic case and two 15 round mags.
I posted it on a local Facebook gun sale/trade group and asked to trade it for a decent hunting shotgun and a revolver.
I've only had one response so far but I think I may be on the losing end of the deal. The dude has a brand new, never fired, still in the box, Remington 870 Express Super-Mag. He wants to trade it straight up for my S&W, with no other gun included in the deal, but he says he has between 100 and 200 shells he'd throw in.
New, there's about a $200 difference in the price of the two guns. Mine is used of course, so I'd say there's probably a $100-$150 dollar difference in the value of the two guns. Throw in the value of the shells, which I'd say is between $30 and $60, and we could be as far off as $120 or as close as $40.
My plan is to trade my pistol for his shotgun, verify that 200 shells are included, and instead of meeting the guy half way between his place and mine, have him make the full 180 mile round trip to make the transaction.
Your thoughts?

I've been told size doesn't matter. Sometimes, I wonder if my wife just says that to make me feel good though...

OK will do! I hear you on that end of the new scooters to the market. I've kinda been skeptical myself as well.... Funny you should mention the Tao Tao EVO 150. Since that's the one I keep running into..... Thanks! I'm by no means a scooter expert. In fact, this is my first one. I can tell you anything you'd like to know about my specific experience buying my Evo. I've put up a thread or two about it. In a nutshell, I've been 100% thrilled. Like Matt said though, if you have any specific questions I'm happy to help however I can.

Rich, you got me thinking about your remote admin conundrum. What if you stripped his software down to bare bones, then had him remote in to a computer that physically is in your possession? That way, you've turned the tables. It sounds like he needs restricted access and you need full, even hands-on, access. You send him a refurb $100 machine from TigerDirect and have him send you the one you built. Take every single application off his physical machine and leave him only with a Remote Desktop icon. If you wanted to get super crazy with it, you could only allow him to remote into a virtual machine, which you could just fry whenever he loads it up with malware.
My kids are still a little too young to have unsupervised computer time, but a buddy of mine does something similar with his kids. He has a virtual XP machine that is the only means of connecting to the internet. He doesn't even run anti-virus on it. He keeps a ghosted image of the machine and "flashes" it with the ghosted image every couple weeks...good as new again.

Oh yeah...
Getting my M class DL cost me $25. $20 voluntary donation for taking the MSF Basic Rider Course, which in IL exempts you from having to test at the DMV, and $5 to go to the DMV and have the M class endorsement added to my DL.

I recently made my first Chinese scooter purchase. I detail it HERE. All in all, I paid $843 for a 150cc...delivered to my home. I'm just under 700Km on it now, and I'm still super happy with the purchase. I went to killer and I don't see the same deal. Regardless, you have to have a motorcycle license around here for anything larger than 50cc. And I don't want to have to title and insure it. Do they have a good deal on a Dash equivelent? If you turn down their "freebies", which I think is a helmet and gloves, you get a discount. Also, if you pay cash/check/money order...basically anything but plastic, you get a 3% discount. They also offer a military/police discount. I was able to take advantage of all three. That brought their TaoTao 150cc "Cruiser" which is actually a TaoTao ATM-150A EVO, down in price from the listed $929 to $843. As far as having a Dash equivalent, KMS has the same scooters every other Chinese re-seller does so I'm sure you can find it there. Personally, I wouldn't want to go smaller than a 150. My 150 is pretty nimble up until about 45 or so, then it will slowly creep up to max speed from there. It's perfect for around town. I can easily pull away from traffic on a green light so I'm out in front of everyone. That certainly makes me feel safer than when I'm having to monitor all the vehicles around me for careless lane changes. I don't think the same would be true for a 50cc. Sure, the top speed is listed at 35 or something, but if the 50cc performs similarly to my 150, that wouldn't be fun in traffic. Maybe it'll do great up until 20mph and then struggle the rest of the way to top speed. I don't know. I don't own one. Insurance on my scoot is $10/month. Here in IL, it cost like $100 or something to get it titled and registered. I didn't think that was bad. Good luck!

Sounds like everyone is pretty much in agreement...
1. Check for overheating
2. Try to update the firmware
3. If it's more complicated than that, either with locked down software or with soldered on components, raise the white flag.
On a side note, @faceplantforlife, don't forget Occam's Razor. If you're not familiar, Google it. You strike me as the type of guy who, like me, has a tendency to "miss the forest for the trees." Sometimes, I get so caught up in thinking about how each individual component of any system could be causing a failure that I forget to analyze the system as a whole. K.I.S.S.
