My vote is for overheating. Take the board out of the case and hit it with an air compressor. Make sure all the vents in the case are clean, as well as the heat-sinks, fans, and any free space around IC's. If you need to de-solder components to clean them, it's not that hard to do. Once you get it "from the factory" clean, power it up outside of the case and monitor it. Watch the fans run. Feel individual components to check for heat. Also, sniff around in there...that's right...with your nose. More often than not, you can smell the fumes produced from something overheating. I suspect that after a thorough cleaning, you won't have issues. If you continue to have issues after that, I'd suspect some sort of secret Xbox software conflict. On a PC, a driver issue would be my next best guess. I'm sure the Xbox uses drivers or something similar. If it's locked down and you can't tinker with it, sell that sucker on Craiglist for $30...deliver some pizzas...buy a used one on Craigslist for $100.

Why not? Get a big, fat deposit...say $2K. He'd probably take a pay-day loan for it. Worst case scenario, the guy brings your scoot back and you've made a hundo or whatever you rent it for. Best case, he takes off with it and you buy a new one with the deposit money.

I like it. It's almost identical to my TaoTao Evo, but I like the lines of the front end way better. link

That sucks JR. I'm hoping your experience is the exception and not the rule. I myself am a big fan of Amazon. I've never had an issue with them. For at least the last 10 years, I've had half a dozen cards on file with them and have had no issues. In that time, I have had only one shipping issue. I contacted them and they sent a replacement, no questions asked. I found out later that it was actually a FedEx mistake. They delivered the package to my neighbor, who told me about it weeks later. I am a Prime membership subscriber and I find that to be an incredible value.
What I've found is that if an item is fulfilled by Amazon, it's smooth sailing. If it is fulfilled by a third-party seller, it's luck of the draw for shipping speed and accuracy.
As for the scooter itself, I've had my eye on it for a while. The TaoTao Thunder 50, in my opinion, is the best looking scooter on the market. Those LED accent lights are a plus too. I wish they made it in a 150.

Well dude. I hope you're okay. Obviously, go get yourself checked out. I hope I don't come off like a prick here, because that's certainly not my intention, but I have to ask...Have you had any training, or did you just hop on your bike and go? I deal with 8" deep pot holes every day, at least until they get them fixed for the summer. If I hit one, I'd be in the same boat as you. I only bring it up for one reason. Prior to taking the MSF Basic Rider Course, I'd never been on a bike in my life. During that class, I learned more than what I expected to. Obviously, after getting my scoot on the road this spring, I've gotten a more hands on education. After taking that course, I certainly was no expert. I still am not. I can say that I received a very solid foundation upon which to build safe riding experiences. I hope that your two recent spills are just a nasty coincidence. Please let us all know how things turn out when you go to the doc. How's the scoot?

I'm not sure if you'll find a more in depth review than what is shown here.

Damn Matt. I bet you just want to throw that thing off a bridge. I don't have anything to compare my scoot to, but it sure seems like much better quality than what the other guys have described is found in a 2008 scoot. Typical issues I would expect to see associated with poor quality, such as excess "flash" on the plastics and rubber from the seams on the mold, brittle plastics, poor fit and finish, etc... are all absent on mine. Other than my paranoia-created start up issues, mine is running like a top. It's still early, I know. I just turned over 500 Km today. It is too early for me to chime in regarding long term durability or quality, but the way things are going, I certainly don't expect major issues for quite a while. If I were you, I'd swing by that place you told me had TaoTaos, and ask if you could take one out for a spin. Take it up the street and park it, then give it a quick once over. I think you could pretty quickly determine how the quality of that scoot stacks up against your recently thrown off a bridge scooter.

I know Second City is virtually a prospect league for SNL but that's where my knowledge ends. I've never heard of Fireside. That old Dan Aykroyd stuff is great. How about the Bass-O-Matic?

Welcome to the forum! It's funny; on my ride home yesterday, I was contemplating the pros and cons of using the scoot as a bug-out vehicle. I have a Red Rock large assault pack in which I haul all my books, computer, lunch, and water bottle to school...all with plenty of room to spare. I could easily use that as a bug-out bag in a WROL/SHTF situation. Between that bag and the on board storage, I think I could haul enough gear and food for 72 hours plus tools for hunting, building, and defense. Hmmmm... now what to do about this wife and these pesky kids...

Dude, you'd better jump on that. That's almost explicit permission to buy one. I'd get one on order tonight before she has a chance to sleep on it. Sure, she may not have actually meant for you to buy a new one, but that might be as close as you'll get! I say run with it. When the tractor trailer shows up in your driveway and she starts giving you grief, make sure to remind her that buying a new one was her idea. By the way, I finally did my 300 Km oil change...at 400 Km. The oil looked and smelled fine. There weren't any metal shavings or filings on the magnetic drain plug either. Still running like a top!

Drill it. A tiny hole will not spill gas but leaving the cap loose is just flat dangerous. Get your self tipped over for any reason and you might get drenched with gas (human torch) Johnny Human Torch (One of my favorites!)

Wow Matt! I hadn't seen this thread when we were PM'ing yesterday. Very nice! I can't wait to see you put the rest of this thing together. Assuming I have no major issues between now and then, I may do a tear down like this over the winter, just to make sure everything is in order.
