I too think that Denali looks pretty swell. I couldn't find it on the website though.

No reason to get worked up over it. It's super easy. Welcome to the forum by the way!

I did mine when I got it a couple months back. This is the video I used as reference. It was super easy and I did it in about 15 minutes at my kitchen table.

Thanks for the input guys. I've been cruising backyardchickens.com for a few days. They do have some good info. While I've never dressed a chicken, I've done so with plenty of other critters, so I'm sure that won't be a problem.
As far as finances are concerned... I can build the coop with scrap. The birds themselves are pretty cheap, so I'll negate those costs. I read on backyardchickens.com that a laying hen eats about 1.5 lbs food/per week. That means a 50 pound bag ($15) should last a month with 8 hens. 8 hens laying nearly daily so lets say maybe 18 dozen eggs per month. Fresh eggs are going for $2 or $3 on Craigslist here, so even if I can only sell half, that's still 9 dozen eggs/month. Maybe I'd get $18 total for the eggs, which pays for the feed for the month.
Obviously, I don't have any experience upon which to base these numbers, just info gleaned from the interwebs. I feel like my numbers are pretty conservative and will put me at least at a break-even financial state.

I'm certain there are apps for your phone that pump verbal driving directions into your ear via Bluetooth. That's probably your cheapest route.

When I bought this "starter home" in town, it was to be a temporary thing...just a year or two. You guys know how life happens and things change. 7 years later, we're still here. I was raised on a farm, and like most of you, without video games and iPods. That crap is rotting the brains of my kids. I'm doing my best to find stuff for them to do outdoors here. We have a giant garden. There's really only so much you can do with that. I just found out today that the city lifted its restrictions raising chickens in town. To me, it sounds like a great opportunity for me to teach my kids all sorts of things. There's only one problem...I've never raised poultry.
I've been looking into it, and it seems pretty easy. Build a coop...feed hens...eat eggs...clean poop...fertilize garden...eat chicken.
Do any of you guys have experience and/or advice on backyard chicken keeping?

Perhaps your wife is different than most. My rule of thumb is that if the wife doesn't like it, it's probably super awesome. Sure, it might be unnecessary, expensive, and dangerous. Those are wifey red flags. Beg for forgiveness vs. Ask for permission....you know how it goes.

Glad to hear you're alright. Just out of curiosity, what gear were you wearing and how fast were you going?

I thought about switching to a blade fuse during the PDI. I just didn't see much benefit to it. The glass tube fuses are cheap and readily available.

There's only one fuse on the bike, and as soon as I started it after that little hiccup, I went straight to Auto Zone and bought better fuses. I'm still running the spare Chinese fuse, but I have 5 high quality replacements on board.

Hell Matt, I just saw that 100 people have viewed this post but not replied so I thought I'd throw you a line. I'm with you buddy. I'd love to go 100% LED. I'm waiting to hear how your quest to do the same works out for you before I make the plunge. I'm anxiously awaiting tales of your success. The common phrase among those of us in the engineering department at my last job was: "You get respect for doing it first, but you make money by copying that guy and doing it second."

Long before I even bought my junk Chinese scooter, I was well aware that the speedometers on Chinese bikes are very "optimistic." Most things I had read said that if your speedo says 45 MPH, you're most likely actually doing somewhere between 35 and 40 MPH. A large stretch of my daily commute exists in a 45 MPH zone, so I try to run where my speedo reads between 45 and 50 MPH, just to be safe.
After a couple weeks of doing that, I got curious as to exactly how fast I was going, so the last two days, I've ran a GPS app on my phone that tracks speed and position on a graph. On day one, I couldn't believe how far off it was. On day two, the GPS data showed the same as the day before... As it turns out, when my speedometer says I'm going 40-45 MPH, I'm actually going 55-63 MPH.
Chinese pieces of junk... geesh! I wish I had spent $3K on a Ruckus that goes 35 MPH. Instead, I spent 1/4 of that for a machine that goes twice as fast. Woe is me.

Thanks guys! I'm a big believer in the "hope for the best, prepare for the worst" school of thought. Like in most other matters, I approached this scooter adventure with the same state of mind. The internet led me to believe that these Chinese scoots are terrible pieces of junk. I think I've been overly cautious. Maybe that's why I've had success so far...who knows? In any case, I've been super impressed by both the build quality and how strong it runs. I've got 340 Km on it as it sits now. Gonna change the oil tomorrow morning. The only problem I've had with the thing is that the fuse that came in it crapped out on me after about 40 Km. Luckily, there was a spare included in the fuse holder. This thing is great and I couldn't be happier with it.
