I'm new so sure hope I putting this in the right area. I have a Garmin nüvi 50LM for use in my truck and on the motorcycles I used to have but it requires a power source. Power outlet (cig lighter) or usb. I would like one for use on the scooter, bicycle and walking around. I'm assuming that scooters have a bit more vibration and the pot holes hurt worse so was wondering if there is a preferred model by the scooter gang that has it's own power source. I'm not crazy about Garman's support as of late so am leaning towards TomTom. Don't want to get lost while have so much fun.

GPS?? For cruizing around?? Oh Hell No!!! We ride to ride. Not to ride to a destination. At the most, the gps on your smart fone, then to only go in the general direction of where you think u might wanna go.
GPS on a Tourer/GL1800/cross country road trip, ok, on a scooter, naw, takes the fun outa it

What I would like to see is one you could read in sunlight with out getting a second mortgage. Those designed for a bike have super bright screens like a fish finder that you can see in the sun and last I saw were in the $500 range. I have a cheap one I got for the scooter but after testing in the car I never used it, can't see it during the day unless it is shaded.

I cut out a mini cover/umbrella outa cardboard and taped it to the gps holder. Not the best, but it kept some of the sun off

I'm certain there are apps for your phone that pump verbal driving directions into your ear via Bluetooth. That's probably your cheapest route.

You haven't had one I take it. Other wise you'd know they can take you for a cruise. I think a scooter would be great for geocaching and yes a sun shield is easy to make. Also some times I will have some place I have to be and it's hard to read a map will driving.
I've got one of them really smart phones. It has all ten buttons and a flip lid. Don't need notin else. I'm retired now. I even gave away my briefcase.

I use my I phone with ear plugs when I travel. Can't see the screen so put ear speakers in the helmet

I would like to have a unit that is self powered. I could recharge it with a usb port. It's easy enough to do and a lot smaller. It only takes 5VDC and 2AMP to charge a phone.
