Har! Great narrative bud! It makes you wonder sometimes about performance parts. I've assigned Cyborg to analyze all of the data to date on BBKs, CVTs, um...CY?....Hey! Can somebody find Cyborg? Haha! Cy is around. I just saw him on another thread. You make a good point about performance parts. Educate me. BBK AND CVT?

I don't. Don't have the scooter yet. Here's a YouTube video from a guy with the same box and scooter: Thanks! I was worried that it might look TOO big on a scoot that size but it doesn't. I could use the extra cargo space of a box that size.

geez dude what are you doing here? you got it goin on....and i like the white dash lites also I'm hear cause I have lots to learn. Granted, I am a quick study and fearless about trial and error. In the short time I've been here I've learned way more in less time than trying to go it alone. Hopefully my sharing didn't come across like I know it all. my father was a mechanic and he taught me a lot about car engines. I've had a dirt bike for years so I'm not empty handed, but I'm new to the GY6. My real weakness is electrical stuff. Nuts and bolts and I'm fine, currents, volts, resistors, etc. is where I get hung up.

I just took a peak under my scoot and I noticed that I have two of the stock fuel filters on my ride. One pre and one post the fuel device (I don't know what we call this but is is grey or silver and has several hose nipples protruding from it). Is having two fuel filters normal or needed?

Is that the original R/R? That's a standard single phase stator and a 4 wire W/Y/G/R Rectifier/Regulator would be expected. If that is indeed the rectifier the yellow and green are straight forward as AC and ground. Now the white is going to be another AC input but it is going to be twice the voltage of the yellow. So where does it plug into the R/R? The red is DC 12v to the battery so it's not that. That leaves us with the ... pink? I can't tell. And a red/white? Still can't tell on my monitor. One of them is probably 12v DC to the ignition (think black) and the other is the white AC input. I think that is the wrong R/R but prove me wrong. That is the $24 question? I bought the scooter used (125 mi) so there is no way to tell if it is OEM. Chances are it's not. When I get a chance, I will tare into the front end and pull it out. IF it is the wrong R/R, would that explain all the electric problems I seem to be having on a relatively new scooter? Not gonna try to prove you wrong. I'm more apt to think you are right on this one.

ok you have a 6 or 8 coil stator , do you have a voltage meter . We need to figure out the wiring . John I definitely have an 8 coil stator. I have a voltage meter and when I have a chance I'll get the readings and respond. Thanks for the info and help.

You replaced a crank and stator?! Hell, you're there bud! Quit listening to me rant. Good man, GY6 mechanic! Rich I did. Tore the entire motor apart with the exception of the gear box without a manual using videos from YouTube and Googling everything. I learned a snit ton of info about my scoot doing this. I was patient and took my time. Wish I had found this board before I started. I figured since I had to go all the way to the crank, I may as well do things right. However, my first big mistake was not measuring the bolt holes for this big bore kit and just assuming it would fit. (Fortunately I was able to return the kit for a full refund minus shipping and I opted for the stock replacement piston and rings, which BTW, on my scoot are 57.4mm and not 57mm) Take away? A 157QMJ is not a 1"P"57QMJ. My second mistake came when I ordered this Koso Performance Variator (115mm) and 13gm sliders for $74.99 to handle the big bore kit. Unfortunately I didn't measure my stock variator and it was already a 115mm. Once I got the scoot back together and running, the stock piston and rings didn't have enough umph to get me going with the sliders so I left the Koso variator in and replaced the sliders with the stock rollers. Power restored. Take away? Measure, measure, measure before you buy parts for your GY6 motor. My third big mistake was getting antsy after reassembling the motor and wanting to turn it on too soon. With a fully charged battery, I cranked it over but had forgotten to connect the main ground wire (green) near the stator housing. I cute little stream of winding smoke soon joint my air space and I believe that is when I fried the stator. At least, the stator no longer worked at this point. Come to think of it, this may also be the reason why my regulator/rectifier took a sheet as well. On the positive side, I did install this performance coil and this performance CDI as it was relatively inexpensive and it seemed like the right thing to do. I'm not sure I have noticed any difference, but I am hoping to notice something at some point. If nothing else, they look "cooler" than the stock parts. Take away? Its fun to blow a little money on parts just so you have something to do and talk about. My favorite "stupid cheap waste of money probably won't work" add on so far is this security system I bought on eBay. My wife laughed her head off when she say my scooter keys attached to the remote. It is battery operated (9v) so it doesn't draw on my stator and is pretty dang loud. The alarm will sound for 20 seconds and reset. Not going to stop someone serious about swiping my ride, but between this, the padlock on my brake rotor and the steering lock, it should slow someone down or draw attention to what they are doing. Take away? Scooter security doesn't cost much. Next up? I hard wired this cigarette lighter/USB port directly to my battery terminals and installed it inside my glove compartment. It works great and keeps my cell phone charged. I figure in a real pinch, it could run an small air compressor long enough to give me some air pressure. Take away? There may be an end to how much I can add on to this scoot, but I haven't found it yet. And lastly, I removed the stock instrument panel lights and replaced them with these bad boys. I posted about this in another thread. I really like the look of the pure white as apposed to the incandescents' color. Take away? You tell me.

Lifan is good! Nice motor and probably good stuff hooked up to it. But there are no absolutes with Chinese scooters, I'm sorry, they aren't there. Like, oh yeah Lexus...cool! Nope, it's China bud, it's on the other side of the world, they don't have to adhere to our laws, and we are clamoring for their cheap scooters! The sellers on this side of the globe prey upon the American assumptions that what they see on the media including the websites MUST BE TRUE!! Not even close, I've been through it and I won't spell it out here again. I had my run ins with Math Club Guy at Green Earth Scooters and you know what? He wasn't a bad dude, just working for somebody and trying to make it work. He summed it up for me with one of our first conversations when I didn't know squat about scooters: "um, Chinese scooters...they are what they are....they are an entity unto themselves.....um....let me send you a PDF....call me...um...good luck." A nice guy put in a tough position....hey Math Club Guy, I think of you sometimes, I hope all is well, no hard feelings from me, I hope you're well. You, and I mean everybody, need to educate yourselves by reading forums, or anything else, and know what you're getting into before you buy. They're cheap for a reason, there's nothing wrong with that. Just don't think they're cheap for no reason. Some are cheaper than others, learn to work on them or don't get into it. I will discuss this with anybody, bring it right here. Yes, I'm riding a SYM, I can also take a GY6 apart. Rich Thanks for the input. I have been coming to many of the conclusions/suggestions you state above. I'm cool with the Chinese scooter I have. I've accepted that I'm probably going to replace most of it sooner or later. I've already replaced a crank, stator, CDI, coil and it looks like I'm due for a regulator/resistor. Love my scoot!

It's confusing isn't it? But these guys cleared it right up! It's a style of scooter called "Racer!". Dave at Abscoot gave me the mini lecture on that. It's also a model claimed by many manufacturers. I'm guessing it's the most prevalent scooter out there sitting in garages. The insides are pure Chinese, GY6 engine, single phase stator, CDI, CVT, poor bodywork, learn to work on them. They have improved, some of them, you might see a three phase stator, but still, learn to work on them. Why? The jerks at the local cycle shop will turn their nose up. I've talked to a guy that the local scooter shop wanted $50.00 for a coil!! The scooter shop!! Wow, tight knit community. There are many other scooter styles/models like retro, classic, etc. They're made by different manufacturers like Jonway, Tao Tao, and Znen. The thing is, unlike cars made by different manufacturers, they can be almost indistinguishable, and in fact, often are.
So if I summarize what I have learned about my scooter this is what I come up with: Brand: Qipai Style: Racer Model: 150T-6 (what does T-6 mean?) Motor: Lifan GY6 1P57QMJ Wheels: 13 inches Did I miss anything?

It's a brand. They have their warehouse in Texas like everybody else. www.jonway.com/Thanks. I suppose I could have just googled it. My scoot looks identical to an earlier Jonway but it is a Qipai brand. So confusing.
