Split Hose By tycomike (Read 3,862 times)

So I have a 150cc Daymak (sorta), while coming home tonight. The exhaust started getting really loud. Then when I got home I noticed a split hose. The hose comes from the valve cover. Why would it split? Should I be concerned? I've patched it for now. Thanks.

Are you talking about a RUBBER HOSE about 3/4 of an inch attached to a VALVE on the BOTTOM of the Valve cover?
If so it just split due to age and weathering.

PAIR unit Alley? If so, why so loud, the check valve should keep the exhaust noise down. How about some pix there Tyco?

Think it was the top hose or bottom hose?

Yea I am thinking PAIR Hose but that should not make any loud noise maybe just a lot of sucking noise.

And no the top hose is a VALVE COVER VENT hose that is just a VENT for the crankcase that does not make any noise even if completely off.

I'll try and get a pic tomorrow. But the hose starts out as metal. Then goes to rubber. It goes to a thing on the side of the scoot. A hose from that goes back to the air cleaner. Thanks.

I put up a picture of it didn't you see it just before your last post! But yes that is your PAIR system and it would make a sucking noise nothing else.

Yes alleyoop I believe that's the hose. The part it was running to is called the Air Refill Valve. It was exhaust air coming out of the split. Thanks.

If exhaust is coming out it's got to be the hose on the bottom running to the check valve. The check valve is supposed to keep air flowing into the exhaust to burn unspent fuel. If the check valve blows then exhaust gases flow out and usually bust the feed hose. Yours may not look exactly like this pic, there's many permutations with combinations of metal pipes and different kinds of hoses.

This would be an ideal time to remove the PAIR system. Take everything off like this diagram illustrates:

Then cut a small aluminum plate from aluminum stock and block off the PAIR port:

Thanks admin. I'll get a better look tomorrow. So it's ok to block off that port? What do I do with that hose then? Can the P.A.I.R. system come out then? Thanks.

That is it. I used the S tube once like he did to make the blocking plate. But I found that I didn't need to weld off the hole left by cutting off the pipe. I just used a piece of exhaust gasket material to cover the port and then put the plate with the hole in it over the gasket material. It was plenty strong enough to not blow out. Here is an example of check valve blow out on my 250 Fashion:

And here you can see I used the pipe flange cut off, with hole, to secure the gasket material to the PAIR port. The orange stuff is Permatex Copper, the only one that can stand exhaust level temps.

Why not just sandwich a piece of sheet tin between the pipe and engine? Leave the pipe there.

So admin I created a block plate yesterday and installed it. I removed all the hoses and other PAIR equipment. The only thing I noticed this morning, is it's hesitating on take off. As well it stalled on me once after I was running flat out and came up to a red light. 'Em I running too rich or too lean now? Thanks.
