Hey guys, I think I have a blown scooter on my hands. It's my neighbors scooter and has been missing the muffler for about 4 -6mnths. I took it for a long ride the other day, very loud, but overall wasnt a bad ride until the way back. I slowly lost power, and then all of a sudden very loud crash of metal smashing together, what I thought was a clutch, it wasnt.... clutch looks fine. It sounds like I have plenty of compression as well. But when I start it, I can hear almost a ringing when rev'ed. Checked the oil level, OF COURSE it was empty, because no one takes care of they're crap!
I changed the oil to find maybe an eighth of QUART!.... and lots of metal shavings in the top of the oil pan bolt....
I am sure it will need rebuilt, I am just wondering what you guys think it is, Block, Piston Rings...
Thanks Guys, Ill post some pics or video shortly

No muffler for That long is a real long time to run lean. The whole motor may be trashed. The only way you are going to find where the metal came from is to get your tools out.

You could probably go for weeks or months without a muffler (I wouldn't) but you won't last but minutes without oil. I make checking the oil part of my daily walk around before I crank it up. (Especially if I'm riding someone else's bike.) Like jct842 said, you won't know until you open it up. My guess is, at the least, you are going to need a piston, rings, and jug. If it seized while hauling azz, you probably snapped the rod, too, meaning a total rebuild or replacement.

rings, piston and cylinder that's all I can think of if I start naming other stuff I might get myself in trouble.

If you need a new engine they run anywhere from 300-450, not worth it for a mechanic to rebuild.

I hopefully won't have to split the case, but we'll see :/

If yo have metal shavings you need to open the case. Could have your oil pump full of metal and wont turn. Open it. Take it apart clean it and see if anything is damaged. While its open replace the essensials such as Valve seals, Piston rings, Timing chain, Chain guides, Crankcase seals. This is something i always do about every year. overtime timing chains get stretched and weak and can break. Valve seals and oil seals are not as strong after so many years and chain guides which are basically plastic run in the hot oil with a chain running against it, its going to show signs of wear. Piston rings wear down with time and you loose some compression.
