I got my bike with 1200 miles and now it has 3879 miles, and it is running the same NGK spark plug that I put in when I got it. I'm wondering if maybe the spark plug could be the reason that I have an engine sputter on takeoff. Should I just replace it for the heck of it?

Yes, that's actually quite a few miles on a plug in an engine that runs as hot as a GY6. Anyway, they're 3 bucks, when in doubt replace the plug. It has fixed a problem I was having several times. They can look perfectly good but be a complete disaster. Just like women, you'll see Plant, just you wait, you will see.

How long should a plug last that is the question: And Carnac with his wisdom will attempt to answer without knowing the question which by the way was HARMONICALLY SEALED WITH FUNKING WANGNERS BEE HONEY. THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION IS AS LONG AS IT WANTS

I change it every spring with the usual spring tune up oil, filter, plug, rotate the air, muffler bearings, rear gear oil, etc.

Don't know if it's done, but it's been running way too rich. Need to do something to lean it down some. My scoot's plug, is the one that came in it from China. That was 2.5 years ago, (4168 miles). Engine starts first time piston comes up on compression stroke, never rolls over and over before starting. Fuel mileage is in the low to mid 80's.....my plug doesn't need changing yet....This is a standard plug...not a platinum, iridium, two, three or four prong job.
My lawn mower is on it's 10th season, a little bigger than a scoot engine, but same type, forced air cooling. Mower had 581 hours on it, when I changed the plugs the first time. That's about equal to 15000 miles. Hours now stand at 960...will be at 1000 by end of this season,...will be changing plugs then for the 2nd time
If engine is properly maintained, tuned, and operated, the plug should last far longer than yours has.....Bob

Not only a much smoother running muffler but all the chubby gals chase me down the street with the smell of bacon emanating from my tail pipe!

If its running rich, how would one fix that problem if the plug looks like that? Just adjust the fuel screw?

If its running rich, how would one fix that problem if the plug looks like that? Just adjust the fuel screw? Initially I'd say yes. If, after adjusting, it's still rich, you may have to do some jetting (I don't like the word re-jet)The re-jet folks can guide u on that task, along with a utube video

I doubt if adjustment of the air/mix screw will be enough to clean up that plug. That looks to be maybe twice as much gas going thru as needed.
