I'm working on a design of my own. Not quite sure what elements I want to incorporate in it yet.

I always liked the ones some of the harley riders got to protest helmet laws a few years back. A small legal helmet with a womans wig glued on it! Doesn't look like you are even wearing a hat.

Funny part about most state helmet laws is they don't say anything about you must wear it on your head. I've seen people with them strapped to their leg and just dare the police to pull them over.

I wear an older model bell half helmet with shield, are the new carbon fiber helmets lighter, and the idea of measuring your head above the ears insure you a good fit?

Measuring is just a rough guide. Different manufacturers sizes vary. Also some have different shapes just like some peoples head shapes are different. Best way is measure to get in the ballpark...then try it on. Buying thru mail is a crap shoot unless you have the same shape head as the guy who designed it. I got a shoei on ebay 10 years ago, new old stock. I would have not ordered that size but it was the only one. Took a chance because it was so cheap and it turned out to be perfect! I think it was something like $35 for a $500 Helmet!

Yes the carbon is lighter. And yes the measurement above the ears is the standard for all helmets now. However, each manufacturer tells you what size those number of inches translates into. Mine is always an extra large....bowling ball head...that's what I'm called around the house.

I think you said your helmet hit in the accident didn't you Will? Think what might have happened. I wear a 3/4 and a full face, it just depends on the temps. I think a good 3/4 is fine although a full face is obviously better protection. If I hadn't had that helmet on, with me being on blood thinners I may not be here now ! This was my 3rd time putting down a scooter. This time I walked away ( still hurting like hell on my right side for the last week and a half) .I hit the ground on my right side both in Dec 2012 and 2014 . My helmet also hit the ground very hard both times but cushioned the impact to my head. A life saver in both accidents. The helmet will be retired because of the impacts its taken the last 2 accidents. Simply put wear one or end up in the ER or morgue ! It's your choice ! willc.

I wear a full faced helmet if I'm going on the highway and a half helmet with a face shield if I'm just going to the store. Not sure what either helmets name brand are I bought the full faced shield from a motorcycle shop here in McAllen Tx. kalee

Put new cheek pads in mine and I feel like I'm being strangled. And now my glasses don't want to fit correctly.

No chin bar on mine, the largest I could find was still making me feel cramped in it (I suffer from noggimus maximus). I got a full face, no chin and it suits me but I want a modular one with bluetooth built in.
