make sure to fully install the exhuast, sit it up on the bike and tighten your mounting bolts and all that, do the flange bolts last. and make sure your exhaust studs and nuts arent bent.

You can get a brand new muffler just like that for about $40 on ebay.
If you can weld, you could open it up and fix it. Drill out the rivets, remove the aluminum sleeve, cut it open and remove the rattling part from it. Weld it back and VOILA!!!

Thank you guys for all your help too. I'm going to pick up a strap wrench soon for the magneto to replace the stator the plastic prong plug thing is green instead of white but still has three wires going into it.

If it was me I would take it apart and repair it. For just a few more bucks you could get a harbor freight wire welder, (muffler + shipping). Actually less than a bucks worth of sheet metal screws would do the deed. A new muffler is going to be just like you have except newer and shiney, and subject to the same comming apart.
