1. Does it really matter what kind of gas I use in a 150cc? 2. How do I get passed the "ad filters" in the right hand side search?? I can't seem to figure that one out.

Thanks cyborg. The reason I asked is because I only go into town about twice a month and fill up my pickup truck with regular (cheap) gas. I then use that gas for everything, ATV, chain saw, both lawn mowers and starting a camp fire. Just wanted to know if I could use it in the trike also.
adamhoyer, richardv, I meant the search on this forum.

I'd try regular,,, shouldn't be a problem I wouldn't think,,, but if you do hear a hint of ping a can of octane booster is cheap ,, keeps forever and goes along way,,, I've had one so long now the original company has been bought up and the can is different,,, I used it in my hi perf ducatis on the hottest of days to quell preignition,,, the engines I built were squeezing stuff pretty tight,,, nothin like you see in these scooters

I use shell low grade for every thing. With the price of gas today, some one who has a little chemical knowledge might just do a little experimenting to see if you could not separate out the goddamn alcohol that keeps ruining the fuel systems on our scooters. I have a feeling the gas companies may not be putting that crap in as much as it costs more than the gas it is supposed to be saving. In fact it would be down right stupid putting it in right now.
Chinese gas is octane rated differently than USA gas. They do not readily have "high" octane in china so when the owners manual says use high octane the gas they refer to is pretty much the same as our lower octane gas. High octane gas has less energy than low octane. High octane has a retardant in it to keep from compression detonating. Unless you get ping you do not need high octane.

1. Does it really matter what kind of gas I use in a 150cc? I'm not a scooter mechanic so take what I say with a grain of salt... But when I purchased my Scooters, I Googled the heck out of this question. What I came to determine, yes, the GY6 should use 93 Octane. The GY6 is an air cooled motor and 93 octane burns cooler... There's 1000's of articles explaining why you should only run 93 octane (and avoid ethanol altogether if at all possible) in a GY6.... Now, your scooter will run on 87 grade, But you risk premature detonation causing engine damage, but IMO, I suggest a Local blend 93 Grade Octane fuel. In addition, 87 grade will gum up before 93 will.

In the great socialist state of California there is only 91 octane available to the masses,,, you can get 100 but it's race fuel and it is dear in price

OH NO MR BILL we are back to the gas thing again just like which oil to use!! How many times are we going to go through this. Use whatever your little heart desires remember your scooter motors are nothing but glorified lawn mower engines.
They are not precision motors that require a lot of special fuels and oils. Heck they probably will run on your pee if you had some alcohol in you(HAHA). Also they are NOT high compression motors which HIGH OCTANE mixes are made for to slow the burn down. I would bet 99% of the scooter folk use the CHEAPEST GAS and 87 octane. 93 Octane is not needed folks but like I said use whatever you believe and or think you should use. You will get different answers from different folks, Just like asking someone which OIL to use you will get different opinions and answers.
You will also find different opinions on the web about everything, oil, gas tires and whatnot. So just use whatever you have been using and ride on. Alleyoop

I don't want to start a raging debate about fuels,, but most car and motorcycle manufacturers use shell in their testing,,, there is a reason for this,,,,and I do notice a slight drop in mpg when I get caught and use cheapo gas ,,, same grade ,,,,
