I have a 50cc Jon way that I recently R2 my batt. When I first put the batt in, it blew the positive fuse. I R2 the fuse and connected another new battery to it. When I connected the batt. it sparked once the positive touched the terminals. Then, the head light stays on without the key in the ignition. Prior to this, there were no issues with the bike. I am stuck with this issue. Can anyone help or suggest anything.

Does the bike operate correctly? Start and run normally?

Without the KEY if you squeeze the brakes does your stoplights come on and then can you start the motor? Alleyoop

No it doesn't. Speedo and gas gauge only come on when key is turned

Bike starts normally once started. Ran the bike, light stays on and eventually ran the batt low. Needed to kick the bike over.

did you invert the battery cables (for a moment) ? The regulator is shorted internally , this is the item that is most likely the cause , it could be black in color . John

It was likely arced into a closed loop (means always on) circuit when you installed battery.... When you install a battery, it's essential that you hook up the positive cable FIRST. Do you by chance have a wiring diagram? If not, what is the exact model of your scooter. I was just informed a lot of the scooters do not have a relay for the head lamp. If it's not a relay, it may be a faulty switch....

At this point we need your wiring config. Do you have a yellow and white wire coming off of your stator? Do you have a wiring diagram in your manual? As suggested by the guys, you may have roasted your R/R and blown a diode. That would explain the charging loss. The relay theory would explain the headlight on all of the time but that would be unusual on such a small engine and especially a Jonway. So some pix of the stator and R/R wires would help.

If the lights stay on AFTER he shuts the motor off that would mean the lights are getting 12v from the battery. Now unless he wired up something the only thing that would cause that is the KEY SWITCH is still making contact with the 12v from the battery even in the off position. Alleyoop

I did, the first time, have the neg. cord on the positive side and did connect the pos. first. My negative was partly red, from past owners, this caused my first short. What is the best way to test the headlight rely? can I replace the rely on this scooter?

So check your keyswitch actually with the KEY Off squeeze the brakes and see if the tail lights come on also check the horn and see if it sounds with the KEY OFF. Unless that scoot has a fuse box that feeds seperate things on the scoot like the some of the 250s I would say when you crossed the battery wires it melted the hot wire the KEY SWITCH and it is making contact with the black wire that feeds everything else. My .02 Unless some wiring was done to this scoot.

Yep normally you will not find relays on chino 50cc and 150cc scoots. This thread has actually explained a few things (at least indirectly) to me today.... My Bintelli Havoc is an Oddball when it comes to the AC/DC CDI - Headlamp test... For example, Most scoots with DC CDI, the head lamp comes on when you turn the Key on.... AC CDI, the headlamp comes on once the scooter is started, not by the key switch... That's not the case with My Bintelli Havoc's. They have a DC, CDI, but the head light does not come on until the scooter is started... Reason being is my Havoc's have a relay... It's roughly the same size as an AC CDI. The three other 150's I have, None have a relay.
