I had to laugh.  I was under my 07 V Star today trying to figure out where the stupid voltage regulator is.  My battery was swollen and my Wrench saw it and immediately had me toss it in the 'Bomb' can.  He has a super duty steel trash can he tosses things in he thinks might go boom.  Well, no boom, but I finally found the Regulator.  Stupid thing is hanging under the battery on a housing you need to pull the bottom exhaust off to get at. 

What kind of mental midget came up with THAT design.  Oh, I know, the same one that made it so you have to take the pipes off to get to the oil filter.  Somedays you just wanna slap somebody.

So, my next major purchase is a relocation kit that puts the oil filter out where it can actually be gotten to.

Other than that, I'm loving my V Star.  Still miss the Nighthawk, but oh well....

The location of the oil filter and oil circulation issues was the main reason i didn't buy a VStar, and a Honda Shadow Sabre instead. But, other than that, a nice bike. Enjoy

Yeah, I'm not overly impressed with their oil system, but hey, it was another one of my 'stealer deals'. And it IS an extra comfy bike.

I had a rambler classic 6 cylinder yep oil filter was great and it was great on gas to never failed it had trunions not ball joints and they better get greased a lot or A frame and tire fell off real guick I found it out first hand LOL

I agree that would make changing the oil filter much easier, but wouldn't all the oil left in the filter leak out all over everything below it when you take it off?

I might be the minority, but I like the oil filter to be lower on the vehicle, with nothing for the oil to drip down on to when changing it. You are already going to be down under there to take the drain plug out...

I love getting hosed down with old oil,,,it helps me maintain my girlish complexion,,,,,,,I need all the help I can get

On top like that, the filter would drain with the rest of it.
A few drops when you lift it off. A quick swipe with a baby wipe and presto!

V Star is a Victory, right? You can blame Can-Am for that, they own Victory, and Indian.

I think Polaris owns all three of those.  Can-Am, Indian and Victory.

yeah, that's right; Polaris owns Indian, and Victory, not sure on Can-Am, Can-Am is Bombardier.
