When the start switch is turned on the starter turns but the engine doesn't turn over. Any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks.

Thanks. When you say THE ENGINE DOES NOT TURN OVER do you Mean: Need some specifics Please if you could answer my questions I may be able to help: 1. It will not start. 2. It is not turning the crank and the piston is not going up and down. If the starter is working but just spinning and not turning the crank not good. Q1. Did you not just have the Right side cover off to put in a stator or something or a water pump ? Q2. Did you take the Starter Clutch out and or replace it? Q3. When you put the COVER back on did you ALIGN the IDLER gear with the Special Slot in the COVER to hold the IDLER gear straight? From what I have seen some make the mistake of Q3 which means the Starter is not engaging the IDLER GEAR which in turn TURNS the crank. Alleyoop

In the pic above If you notice the IDLER GEARs SHAFT fits into a slot in the COVER to hold it in place and nice and straight. If the shaft is NOT in the built in slot in the cover the Idler Gears Teeth is not meshing with the STARTER CLUTCH GEARS.

Just in case a low battery was contributing to this issue I put it on a trickle charge until the charger turned green.
After doing that I still have the same issue.
I would like to post a video so you can listen to the issue to help diagnose it. How can I post a video?

I'm not the expert that some of you are on here. It would be good if you could listen to it starting. How do I post a video so you can listen?
It sounds like the starter turns over but the piston isn't going up and down.
I did not have the cover on the right side off. I changed the rear tire.
When I finished putting the rear wheel back on I went for a test ride of 1 mile. I had a low battery from not being ridden in a while. When combined with the other issue I posted about (stalls at stops with brakes) I had to start it every time I stopped. I started it a few times each time it stalled until it finally left me there and wouldn't start.

Concerning STALLS AT STOPS with the BRAKES ON!!! ON the center stand and idleing does the rear wheel spin? IF SO to fix that is to LOWER the IDLE just so the REAR WHEEL DOES NOT SPIN.
Now since you just said it was running and starting and you never had the cover off Then is is NOT the IDLER GEAR.

Where is the idle speed adjustment screw on the carb?

BUMMER BOB!! That sounds like the Starter Clutch is Slipping and not grabbing so that is why it is not turning the crank. Means you will need to tear the RIGHT SIDE cover off to get at it. The Idle speed screw is on the Throttle Cable side and normally has a SPRING under it.

Mmmm. I'll let everyone know once I get it apart.
Alley. What do you think about putting the video upload instructions on a sticky at the front of one of the forums? I couldn't see the instructions there.
