No Luke Djabouti is up near the horn of Africa, South Africa is at the southern most tip of Africa, our annual gross domestic product or GDP is 26% of the total GDP of Africa. However we have the world famous Kruger National Park where it is best to stay in the car cause there are lions, cheetah's, leopards and some other animals that would like to bite your arm off not to mention giraffe, elephants rhino's buffalo etc.

Scootaway - you know more about the origins of the National Anthem that a lot of the college students I teach. Thank You!
If you want to see some beautiful country, take a short trip west of D.C. and see the Blue Ridge and Cumberland ans Shenandoah Valleys. There are also a number of battlefields from our Civil War.

Scootaway - you know more about the origins of the National Anthem that a lot of the college students I teach. Thank You! I whole heartedly believe that most immigrants know more about American history than those who were born here. I don't think most Americans would be able to pass the knowledge tests that are given during the Naturalization process. Sad, but true.

So CCPROF what do you teach and where? I'm a high school teacher teaching economics to grade 10 and 11's. Yes I agree with what you and runningslow says about American kids but don't feel bad about it cause when your country is one of the most important ones in the world you tend to ignore the others. But besides that I will probably emmigrate to the US in the next three years when my daughter becomes a citizen so I tend to take a keen interest in the US in fact my oldest daughter read a book about the wars of the US such as North South war and of course when England was still an enemy. I have seen many pictures of the Shenandoah valley (John Denver sings about that place in a song of which I can't remember the name) and the movie Patch Adams was shot there, truly a beautiful place and I will visit it as well, pity it will be winter.

Scootaway - I teach Economics at the local community college so we're kindred spirits. One of the biggest things I try to convey is that we're a global economy and we are outsourcing ourselves into oblivion. We can't afford to ignore the rest of the world. Depending on the schedule, I also occasionally teach Astronomy.
The song you're thinking of is "Country Roads" -
"Almost Heaven West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains Shenandoah River....."
One of my all time favorites and great traveling music. Just makes you feel happy. West Virginia is about an hour south of here.

So please explain what 'ho" and "hoe' is all about? Who wants to tackle that one?

wow, really? africa is 18hrs away from Uncle Sam?...when your'e in the US, go around look for garage and yard sales......that's the most enjoyable thing iv'e ever experienced here in the US. if an american(white) family have their garage sale, they really sell cheap and the quality is superb, almost new,and they are very nice people, very decent, and when they see you comming, they will say "how u doin'"...just say "great, and you"!!! and everytime they see you ,they will ask the same question....over and over again. lol....very nice,i like them!...dunno if the rednecks and the yankees are the same??!! i very well think so.. but if mexicans do their garage sales..oh forget it,,,things are expensive, heavily mutilated, junky and doesn't give discount. grrrrrrr!
good luck and have a safe trip!!!
