I have a 50cc 1P39QMB. I'd like to replace all lights to LED's to save the battery and maybe give me enough power to upgrade my horn and add a audible blinker. I know others have done this but I need to know where to get the LED's and is it worth the trouble?

I found a Wolo Bad boy air horn for $19.95 and not that I need a replacement, That would be just plane cool. I'm not the only one to make a turn and realize my blinker is already on If I go to LED's I should have power for the upgrades?

Is it just a strait bulb replacement or do I need something else? Relays?

LED's are straight replacements. They are lower power than the original bulbs and no relays are required. You got the BadBoy horn at a great price. They are really loud. Your battery will have no problem powering the horn. The horns won't overload your electrics unless you drive with the horn on all the time. I have a set on both my VIP50 and YY250TT. Here's a picture of the install on the VIP50. This required splitting the compressor from the horns.

The place to start replacing LEDs are in the dash. These bulbs will outlast the bike. I use 194 501 T10 Clear LED Wedge Bulbs for turn indicator markers etc and I use 194 501 T10 Inverted LED Wedge Bulbs wide angle for the gauges. I have ordered from this company 3 times now. The guy is in the U.S. but the parcels come from China, so it takes about 2-3 weeks. The price is excellent and the quality is great. These bulbs are polarized so if you plug one in and it doesn't light turn the bulb 180 degrees www.wardenjp.com/stores/194.htmlThis company has replacements for turning indicators, brake lights etc. You need to know the bulb type number so you get the correct LED for the holder.

Some feel the LED bulb replacements are not bright enough w/o going over to an actual LED system. You may run into slight problems with your turn signals, w/o a the proper digital blinker unit, and so far, I've only seen one LED Headlight conversion that I would consider.
I've replaced my Brake/Tail light with the LED bulb replacement and don't have a problem with it.
The headlights work a little different. LED lights tend to diffuse in all directions, instead of focus down the road. While oncoming traffic can certainly see YOU better, it is questionable whether you can see any further down the road, or if all the diffusion actually serves to "night blind" the rider to a certain extent.
A lot of people fuss with the headlight upgrades, then settle for aux driving lights, that run DC directly off the battery, that they can manually turn on and off via a switch.

50cc scoots use AC from the stator to run headlights. You cannot use LED's in place of the headlights unless you rewire for DC.

Thats right. I should have mentioned that of course. Story is still the same.
There are kits out there. I've just not seen the results I'd need to go with one. Yet!

The vendor I use for my LEDs is "sixity" on ebay. I have replaced all of my bulbs accept the headlights and they work great. my signals flash faster (almost twice as fast) as they did originally but that is actually nice.

LED are illegal as headlights nearly everywhere. The best conversion are HIDs, but they are expensive and you don't save anything in power. Most are 35 watt or more...and only run on DC. www.scooterwest.com/item_details/HID-True-Xenon-Light-Kit-GTS/1959Instructions www.scooterwest.com/sites/000/000/000/01/images/images/HID_Instructions.pdfNo high/low beam and they can run very hot and melt the plastic lens in chinese scooters. This varies by design of the original headlights... LEDs are fine as 'running' lights. If you convert the turning indicators, get a new LED flasher. I know a couple of people that have been ticketed cause their flashers flash too fast... Also ANY change in the stock headlights is illegal in most places. Nobody is going to care but you want to make certain you are not blinding oncoming traffic.

Yeah I know LED headlights are illegal thanks though. I never heard of a ticket for blinkers flashing to fast but, I don't want one going to work at 1AM. I ride a lot both night and day and I love to tinker. How do a counter act the fast flash with a strait bulb replacement? I just want to save some power on my 50cc to add som accessories

Ya it is called 'hyper flashing'. There are special flashers relays for LEDs on scooters. They have a resistor in them that slows them down. You might get them to slow by adding a regular incandescent bulb in the circuit in series. Here is what they look like: s3performance.com.au/led-flasher-relay-with-diagnostic-circuit-p-134.htmlThe very best place to start to get power back is the dash cluster lights...change them to LEDs is cheap and easy. You gain a fair amount...

Right on JR... these bulbs are the best I have used and the price is great. It is just a bit of a wait to get them out of China. I think I have bought maybe 40 bulbs from these people and have not had one go bad...
