UPDATE: I've now put about 130 miles on the scoot so far with the new motor. I tried to take it easy during the first 100 miles or so, I'm taking the "ride it like you'll ride it, but gently" approach to a break in. I kept the rpms low, accelerated slower and occasionally opened it up for a short burst. The new motor seems to be performing well, with no tweaking to speak of yet, besides adjusting the idle speed. One of these days, I'll need to actually adjust the carb and I really need to replace the paper air filter. I don't think its ever been changed and it looks pretty grody right now. That being said, the last time I really opened up the throttle on a long flat road I managed an indicated 63mph. Which, if memory serves me right, should be about a real 57-58. I may have to verify that with my wife's TomTom. I'm also going to try installing the bicycle speedo this weekend, so that will help with accurate speed readings, too. If I can manage those speeds already, I can't wait to try and tweak it a little bit. I want to get a uni-filter and I'm going to need a new exhaust anyway. I also haven't cracked open the CVT to check the belt and weights, yet. I'll definitely want to get some sliders and if it has an 835 belt, I bet an 842 would get a few more mph out it. I bet it would help if I lost about 30-40lbs, too. QUESTION: Has anyone ever had an issue with their center stand interfering with the kick start lever? When I had the center stand up, it would rub against the kick start, then I'd have to force the stand down past the kick start. Because of that, I have a dent in my nice new chrome cover and I've had to remove the kick start lever.

With my old Matrix 150 XX, I had to have the center stand down to kick start because the kick would hit it. I'm glad to hear you're out and riding it. Enjoy!

Random thought of the day.... does anyone know of an oil filter kit I could use to place in my oil cooler line? Something that would use a common oil filter canister? Wouldn't this be a lot easier than a spin on?If you're still interested in a spin on let me know but there's a lot of questions about whether the pump creates enough pressure. Rich

Looks just like the fuel filter I installed. I'd be worried about something like that melting! I guess there would be a concern about the oil pump being able to handle the extra load of a spin on filter. That would make an interesting research project, though. I guess that means I'm still interested, but uncertain if I'd go through with it.

Yeah, that's what I thought but I checked twice, its made for an oil line. Perma-Cool has some spin on adapters but I'd really be worried about the pump and pressure. That in line is so inexpensive (cheap? : I was thinking you could hook it up to a line and pour some oil down it, if it dribbled through pretty easy I'd feel safe in using it, if not pitch it. Also, the oil would be thinner when hot of course. Rich

I don't think its for "hot" oil lines... Perfect protection for oil pumps on oil injection engines.

Yep, you're right, my bad. I did run across some for hot lines but they were like fifty bucks. Rich

No worries, Rich. I've got bigger fish to fry before I go and try something experimental anyway.
For anyone that's been watching and was curious, I've had no trouble at all triggering the outgoing gate for my community. I just aim myself right at the loops in the pavement at about 5mph and the gate opens. That was a big concern for me, but I'm glad it works!
Projects for the coming weekend: - Remove the Enricher - Check valves - Adjust Carb - Change Oil (again) - Get a functional rear brake (be it drum or disc, but probably just going back to the disc) - Reinstall the body - Install the Sigma Bicycle Speedo (low priority, so this may get bumped to next weekend.)

So, for my weekend checklist: - Remove the Enricher Tried that. Scoot would NOT start... without significantly turning up the idle. I put the enricher back on.- Check valves I never got around to it, mostly because I still don't have a feeler gauge.- Adjust Carb Yeah, I didn't really do this either. Lazy.- Change Oil (again) I did this. - Get a functional rear brake (be it drum or disc, but probably just going back to the disc) I remounted the caliper and brake lever, but I'm still trying to track down some replacement hoses. The guy at Autozone suggested I try a hydraulic hose shop to make me some new hoses. I may investigate that idea tomorrow.- Reinstall the body I did get most of the body reinstalled.- Install the Sigma Bicycle Speedo (low priority, so this may get bumped to next weekend.) Didn't get anywhere near this. Now, some interesting discoveries from this weekend: The variator is branded "UM", so at least the variator is identical to my original factory one. Its 115mm in diameter, too. The motor is stamped 161QML, not QMK.... I'm still confused by that one. 835 Bando belt. I'll be ordering an 842, soon! Now, can someone help me identify this carb?

When I had the center stand up, it would rub against the kick start, then I'd have to force the stand down past the kick start. Because of that, I have a dent in my nice new chrome cover and I've had to remove the kick start lever. Well, I've now figured out why I was having this problem. The rubber bumper and the bracket that held it is missing.... so, the center stand is coming up higher than it should and in turn getting in the way of the kick starter. Must have lost that thing on the road somewhere and not realized it.

I haven't had any electrical issues since the episode last week, but I've also been keeping the scoot on the Battery Tender. Kicker starter is working, so I'm not too concerned about how reliable that battery is. I've removed the kick start lever again, but this time its staying under the seat with the wrench to mount it back up in a pinch. I think its time I piece together a dedicated tool kit to keep on my scoot.
Rear brakes. When I went to Autozone looking to replace the cut hoses, I got a "deer-in-the-headlights" look from the guy at the counter. He suggested that I should try a hydraulic hose shop. I went to a hydraulic hose shop and they there said he could easily make me new hoses, but that the brake fluid would eat through them. Sooo... I order a new steel braided rear brake hose, which I hope to get today or tomorrow. I'm happy, because the new hose will replace the 3 piece line that I had before: 2 flexible hoses and a steel hardline in the middle. I'm going to replace the fluid in the front brakes while I'm working on the rear. They're a little squishy, I'll probably need some new pads up front soon.
I went over to Sears during my lunch and bought a feeler gauge set. First thing on the agenda for tomorrow is setting the valves.

The variator is branded "UM", so at least the variator is identical to my original factory one. Its 115mm in diameter, too. I love that name, it sounds like a L&H routine. What kind of variator do you have? UM. Well if you're just going to mumble! The motor is stamped 161QML, not QMK.... I'm still confused by that one. I think that's a 189cc, so you actually got an upgrade! Now, can someone help me identify this carb? I've been corresponding by e-mail with this distributor in China. He said the two big names over there are KT and Shenway. So it's probably the KT. I can't tell how many MMs that inside diameter is on the manifold side by your gauge. Can you clue me in? Also, I might actually order some of those from him, does the carb seem halfway decent? Rich

I think that's a 189cc, so you actually got an upgrade! I think you're right that it's actually is a 189cc, but I want to find a way to verify that without tearing it apart. I'll probably stick something down the sparkplug hole and measure the difference between TDC and BDC. Now, can someone help me identify this carb? RichYou can see in the pictures that its a Keihin CVK carb. Under the Keihin logo, there is a "K T". The inner diameter of the manifold side is 26mm. I've looked for Keihin CVK carbs, but I haven't found any that match it.

Yeah I saw the Keihin but the Chinese are famous for copying logos. I hope it is actually one that would be quite a plus. It's a little bigger at 26 than what you usually see which is good for that many CCs. Rich

That carb is exactly the same as the one on my Lifan. I think it is a Keihin copy. On thing, check the nipple on the de-accelerator of the right side of the carb. Mine was not drilled out!!! It takes a 1/64 drill or finer drill...
It made a difference in the way the bike runs with it opened up....
