oh puddle jumper, a day late and a dollar short. I just fixed up an old computer of mine and gave it to my daughter. I have tons of spare computer parts because I will buy a machine with a good processor, keep it and upgrade all the hardware so I have a variety of graphic cards, and all other parts. When I have enough to make a decent computer, I put one together and I usually give it to family. Since I just did one, it will probabably be awhile until I have enough to do another, but I will keep you in mind. Sorry.

mthomas, you are funny. Building a computer today is easy, especially since windows does the configuring by itself. I used to build 286's back in the day when you had to configure all the(ugh, my mind just went blank and I can't think of what all the stuff was called. Oh, I am getting so old ) Oh yeah, the interrupts and the rest of the settings. Now that was a hassel. Used to write HTML and Java when it first came out also and there wasn't software to do it for you. Now I can't remember a thing because I haven't done it for so long. All I remember was the first line was <html>. lol the rest is gone. My mind is a tabula rosa.

haha bad flashbacks to having to edit the autoexec.bat and config.sys to get a cd rom to work, or having multiple autoexecs with different memory configurations to get different games to work with enough sub 640k memory. We are spoiled these days, no mfm drives, no configuring loads of dip switches or dealing with token ring networks lol. They still havent made anything as cool as a wolfcreek though Chinese scooters are so much simpler than 1980's pc's. Sorry but I don't have enough spares to put together a whole system after moving continents but ebay / craigslist can usually bring up some. If you go on ebay and search by zip you can probably find something pretty cheap locally and cut out the postage cost. Theres loads of ex business machines out there for cheap.

everyone's worthy (apart from investment bankers, and some politicians lol) we all just have different reasons, I feel the same about electricians lol. Wolfcreeks were mesmerising though. They were an octagon shaped cabinet with tapes on the walls and robotic arms read barcodes on the tapes and moved the right tapes to tape drives. At full whack with a full set of drives they were amazing to watch (at least in the mid 90's, before we all got blasé about our cars talking back to us Knightrider style.

Lets go back even further. Besides dos, do you all remember the big floppy disks before machines had hard drives? My first computer was like that but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. Went to my doc today for some simple stuff and I mentioned to him that sometimes I forget the names of stuff I want to talk about and he said that was normal. NORMAL!!!!! well, maybe it is but I find it damn frustrating. If the name of my first computer comes to my simple mind, I will post it. It is good for a short laugh.

Gotcha ;D Now back to topic, I wouldn't worry about PJ's computer problems too much as I know he is a good fellow that has decent friends looking out for him. I'm fairly confident that his PC problems are about to take a U turn. But that's just MHO! Guess we'll all have to just wait and see. M/C
