The droopy diaphragm is normal. They are made of thin material which is very flexible. This allows the needle valve to move up and down in the needle jet according to throttle position and engine speed. If you actually see a hole or tear, then it's time to replace. Here's one for $7.95 plus shipping. Scroll down about 60% of the page: www.scrappydogscooters.com/Replacement_Parts.html Here's the electric choke about 30% of the way down the page: www.scrappydogscooters.com/COMMON_PARTS.htmlIf you have trouble starting, it usually isn't the choke because they are in the choke position by default. Even without an electrical connection, they will enrich the mixture for starting. The electrical power makes the choke needle extend to block off the enriching circuit after a couple of minutes. It is very unusual for the choke to get stuck in the extended position which would cause a cold starting problem.

Cruiser,
Once again thank you for being so helpful.
Is there a way to test the auto-enricher? Can i hook it to a battery and check it's movement range or something? I think it was 3 turns out when i removed it to look at it.

Sure hook it to the battery and it should fully extend in 3 to 5 minutes...
Here are some videos:
This one is a time lapse

Well.... She lives!!!! I got the scooter running today, and i think I have the idle adjusted close. I need to re-install the stock air box and see if that helps.
A few questions...
How far does the left handle need to be pulled in to start a scooter usually?
My RPM's don't want to register correctly... the gauge works and climbs with the engine rev'ing up, but it start below zero...the needle. Could it possibly have a bad ground? My gas gauge doesn't seem to be working either, even with a full tank.
I haven't road tested it yet, but it does idle and remain running until I choose to shut it off..so thats a good start.
Thank all..

skooter the left handle pulled till the break is engaged usually half way at least on my bike. The ground is possibly the trouble. the tank float could be stuck try taking a coat hanger and bend it so it will fit inside the tank and move the float up and down. If your bike is a 50cc I've got a float I'll sell you cheap and it brand new never used.

OK more updates...
I took it for a test ride and all was good until it started to sputter. I looked down and a gas/oil mixture was coming out of the breather tube and the air box was filled was oil mist.
I noticed a hose that goes to the top of the motor near the carb had come off as well.
Any ideas? Or is it time for a rebuild? It has 13,101 miles on it.

There are about 8 hoses on a scooter a picture would really help...
What 'breather tube"? Do you mean the tube that runs between the air box and the carb?
That hose probably runs up to a nipple on the top front of the valve cover. It should attach to the air box. or stick it is a small container to catch any oil...just don't plug it!

Scrappydogscooters.com is your best bet. 50cc's isn't alot to work with though. Variator and carb is going to be the best starting points. Just my opinion though. Like the man said, it's really how much time and money you have and how much your willing to invest. My buddy was a scooter mechanic by profession an he had his 50cc running at around 50mph, he was keeping up with our 150s, I couldn't freekin belive it. But again, there was alot of $ and time that he sunk into it.

you know what I think? Since it already has 12,000 miles on it, and you will need to put quite a bit of money into it to upgrade, plus all the hours of work, I would just buy a 150 from a reputable online dealer. You can get a 150 for 600 dollars and then you will have what you want. (but even if you do this, I will bet you will want a 250 within a year.) So if money if the problem, buy the 150, ride it and enjoy it and save for the 250. Even if it takes you 2 years to save, you can enjoy the decent ride of the 150 while saving for the 250. Forget a 50 ccer. too much work and money to get any kick out of it. From talking to dealers, I have learned that the 50 ccers just aren't selling that much anymore. Very few roads that can tolerate the 50 cc anymore.

The 50cc's are still the biggest sellers around hear. You don't need a MC licence, tags, or insurance so they are really cheap transportation.

I would like to know where your getting this info from. 50cc's are widely popular and there's many an owner in this and other forums that love their 50's. Bigger isn't always better. for getting around town, campus or just out for the joy of riding, 50cc can put a smile on ones face and even more $$ left in your pocket.
Sure a nice 400 or larger is great for long distance trips but there are still those of us who don't mind a top speed of 40-45 and the adventure of taking a little guy out for a 200+ mile trip. Besides, you'll never get 100MPG with a 250 unless your doing a lot of pushing and lets be honest, that ain't fun!

13,112.6 miles and still going.
I'm going to buy a BBK when i find one cheap and install that.
Then I'll buy a 150cc if they can be found for 600 bucks and buy that to ride and keep stock.
My 50cc/BBK will be my project scooter.
I really thank everyone for all the help.
