Ok, lets see how many strange, or funny, or odd names for places we can come up with. Only one stipulation. It must be a real name of a real place.
I am going to start the ball rolling with "Slippery Rock, Pa.

We visited the place once and stayed in Meadville, PA., home of Channellock Pliers. Try this on for size Damariscotta, Maine.

Hey common now Mac - don't be dissing the old Slimy Pebble. Here in good old PA we have lot's of better ones. Forget the towns with Native American names. Mthomas might know Mars, Space's Corner, Leaper and Panic. They're over his way. My favorite small villages around here are Frog Hollow and Chicken Town. In the northern part of my county, we have Colver and Revloc - they're across the road from each other and are old company mining towns. To the west of them, at the top of the mountain, there's Nolo (No Low). Some of the local mining towns are simpler, we have Mine 36, Mine 37 etc up to Mine 42. The Berwind Coal Company owned the mines and the town at the foot of the hill is Windber. The small town next to it is Scalp Level. There's also Welsh influence with Rhymney and Llanfair and Krayn.

Isn't the internet wonderful? www.legendsofamerica.com/loa-oddplacenames.htmlOf all the names I could come up with there really isn't a Toad's Neck anywhere in America-not even in Arkansas. But I wasn't far off Toad Suck, Arkansas is a real place.

Roachtown, Ill. Now that sounds like a place some people would love to visit. Are they talking about the creepy insect, or the kind that has smoke coming from it. (just so you all know, I do not, and never did, even as a teenage, do drugs. I can feel high on life alone and don't need anything to atrophy my brain). Any way, assuming roachtown is talking about insects, ugh, who decided to call their town that? Not very appealing.
I went to slippery rock college also, before it changed to slippery rock university.

I was just in Slippery Rock Tuesday. Rated the #1 party school a few years ago, kind have cleaned up their act a bit, twenty minutes from me.
Glad I don't live in Gayville but may have to plan a road trip to Hooker!
Larry, I know where Mars is, right outside of Cranberry, never heard of the others.

Hell, Michigan..................sign sez " Welcome To Hell " at city limits Got that beat, "New York, New York"! That's "HELL, HELL" in upstate yankee. Also in this fine state: Butternuts Chateaugay Conquest Cornwall-on-Hudson (not an image I want to dwell on) Friendship Hastings-on-Hudson (another image I don't want to dwell on) Mooers (for the cow lover in all of us) Ripley (believe it or not) Sand Lake (now there's a contradiction) Veteran (my hat's off to ya) and my most favorite... Willing (where the fun girls are) M/C
