Ok so everything has been going good with this scoot all weekend. Decide to ride it to work today. Running great. I get half way to work and I lose all power it starts it idles great but I give it any gas it bogs out and dies. If I very easy on throttle while on center stand it will get up to about 3000 then bogs out. I have clear fuel line on it so I can see it has gas at carb. All theair breather tube are in place and tight. I just don't get it.

Check carp diaphragm i160.photobucket.com/albums/t177/Brockster22/Scooter-engine-swap/Elite-carb-diaphragm.jpgWe have moped scooter also and couple of times diaphragm has been the cause. Ones there was one screw in the top of the carburator a little loose and there was no vacuum over the diaphragm. And other time there was a little hole in a diaphragm. So small that you had to look it against bright light. Diapragm is very sensitive part. Check that first. It is easy to check.

I just put a BRAND new Carb on it. It idle perfect.
It acts like it is flooding out when you give it any throttle.

Todd is the oil burner scooter you are riding? If it is I'll bet you have a fouled spark plug from burning all that oil.

No speed this is my other scooter. I am going to do a top end rebuild on that this weekend. If I can not get this figure out this one is going up on the for sale block soon.
after a quite a bit of reading today I am thinking that it may be the partly the Vapor Recovery system causing issues.

Todd, I tend to agree with Jalat about the diaphragm. Diaphragm problems will not affect the idle. I believe Dr. JR likes to use blue rtv to seal the area around the plastic disc and the rubber diaphragm as an added measure against any leaks.

I will take it apart this weekend when I get a chance and look. I am really going to be pissed if a brand new CARB has a bad diaphragm in it.

It may be that the needle is not attached to the diaphragm. Hopefully the diaphragm itself is in good shape.

My MC-62-250 did the same thing....going down the road and then just died out like it ran out of gas...would start up go 1/4 of a mile and would do the same thing...would idle fine..but would not stay running when getting up to about 40 mph....so, I did everything I could think...then I got a new carb...but it would not pull gas thru it....I squirted gas straight to carb and it would run, then die out...solution: It was a cracked air tube "a short piece of plastic black tubing with a 45 degree bend that comes off the engine and the front part of carb slips into it" It is being repaired as I type...should fix the problem says the mechanic. I will keep you posted

Jalat wins the. I am really Kinda PISSED.. Bran new carb Not only has tears in the diaphragm but also the needed disconnected from the diaphragm. Put Diaphragm from old carb in and we took a nice 61 mile ride tonight no problems. Still do not feel that it has the power it should have but it is running good. www.pbase.com/damin69/image/135284393.jpg[/img]

not nice to be a winner for this but glad you found the reason easily. Was it brand new diaphragm? You should contact to seller and ask new one.

Yep! These diaphragms are total junk! Mine had a 1/4 inch tear and I just got finished repairing mine again. This time I did a better job. I buffed the entire surface, cleaned it and then slapped on a Slime Skab bicycle patch to the underside of the cut. Then I applied a thin amount of silicone all over the rest of the underside. After that I used some silicone on a piece of rubber glove and placed it on the outside of the cut. Now if this bugger pops again then I give up! Since these crappy carbs seem to have a history of bad diaphragms it's funny there is no rebuild kit for them.

Ugh, I may have the same problem. After having all the plastic off it for nearly 2 months, fixing all kinds of little things that decided to fall apart at the same time, I finally get the last of the plastic back on yesterday and tried to ride it. It starts fine, and while it's on the center stand I can rev it as much as I want, runs great. When I bump it off the stand it hesitates for a second then recovers. If I give it any gas at all when off the stand it dies immediately. Can't even go 2mph with it.
Other than checking the idle mixture screw and making sure the manifold clamps were tight I didn't do anything to the carb, though I touched every other square inch of the scooter. I rode it a few times around the block when I had various plastic parts off it and it ran fine. Only when it's all finally done and back together, now I have to take it apart again.

Scrappy just emailed me said they do not normally warantee wholesale parts. but would see if he could get replacement partss for this carb. That he has never had this problem with one of these carbs in the 2 years he has carried them. The needle should not fall off in less than 30 miles. Nor should the diaphragm have any holes in it.
