Will, John has a very good point....ON HIS HEAD! No seriously, he does....ON HIS HEAD! But maybe you better test it right off of a regular battery. Remember, run a cable from the negative on the battery to the mount on the starter, and then touch the black cable from the starter to the red terminal of the battery.
By the way, I did a cotinuity test on my Bashan from the black terminal on the solenoid to the starter body, the engine case, the engine ground, and got a tone everywhere. The circuit would run through the brushes of the starter, the windings, mount, engine case, head, to ground. The starter body is actually contiguous with the mount. Rich

I have started the disection of the starter . So far I have stripped 2 retaining screws . Where the black wire goes into the starter itself, I was able to get those 2 screws out ok. When the conecting tab was removed, the inside wire was covered completely in oil and cracked and bare. Pictures will be posted later. Any suggestions for a good screw removal tool ? Bill C.

Most tool places have what they call an Easy-Out or a screw extractor...maybe Leons or Home Depot
they come in different sizes, they may work
Do you have any heads left?

I agree with Bashan...the front bearing is gone if it has oil in it...

No wonder I was having the issues with it ! It's been a "great" learning experience for me. Now I understand why keeping a stick or two of C4 handy helps when dealing with a scooter that isn't behaving itself ! (bad attempt at explosive humor) . will

If you have had the front wheel off the tab at the speedo pick-up hub is likely bent or broken need to check that first... also pull the cable at the wheel and see what is happening...

HEHEHE!! He means this, take the cable out of the speedo hub and check if the connector is broke inside. Then check the end of the cable that connects to it that may be broke as well. Alleyoop
