So... my scooter started giving me crap again. I need to get to the A/F screw to set it and I can't because there is a cap on it. I broke down and bought a drill. Took off the side faring but still could barely get to it w/ a frame bar in the way. The fine bit broke instantly, next size up I tried but I really couldn't get it straight on. I put the faring back on and unhooked the carb from the air/fuel out thingee ( I guess that is the main thing holding it in for the most part) and turned it on hits side and tried to drill more and the drill died, so I'm waiting for it to charge up before I can go back at it. I didn't think that dumb little cap would be so hard to drill into . Why do they put that on there? What if people need to adjust their carb. Such malarkey!

You may have to loosen the two clamps on either side of the carb. One attaches it to the intake elbow and the other the air box...
With them loose you can twist the carb up so you can get at the air fuel screw more easily... then when you get the cap off, swing it back down into position and re-tighten the clamp screws...

Thanks Sprocket! I figured that out AFTER having a hell of a time trying to drill it from the side ( live and learn ) It is on its side right now and I'm just waiting for the drill to recharge so I can drill more. It ran out of juice pretty quick because it is a new drill and I was relying on the power it had in it before I ever charged it. I just don't get why they have to put a friggen cap there. People need to make adjustments ugggg

Ya true, but sheesh sometimes you need to get to it to make an adjustment. Hopefully this fixes the problem. I've already gone through too much crap trying to fix this scooter when it only has 225 miles on it and is 3 wks old

Well IT MAY NOT BE A CAP AT ALL, it may actually be a PLUG, If it is a cap the cap is very thin and a drill should go right through it. From what you already did I think you have a PLUG WHICH there is NO SCREW behind the PLUG. You will most likley need to buy the SAME CARB but with the Fuel Ratio Screw, they do sell them and many have done just that. Alleyoop

Omg are you serious?! I can't believe I may need a new carb when I have a new scooter! If It is a plug and I keep drilling, what will I find behind it? Nothing? The thing even slid in a little as I was drilling.

A Cap would be like 1/32 thick so a little drill would go right through it in 1 second. How far have you drilled it, if it moved then get a Small screw and screw it into where you drilled it and try and pull it out. Alleyoop

Yes, I am also on ScootDawgs and many have just got a new Carb with the Fuel Ratio Screw. They do this to pass emissions and the EPA to get them into the states. By plugging it makes the EPA happy that a user will not be able to mess up the EMISSION settings. Alleyoop

I was drilling and drilling, I don't know how deep but deep enough where I could create a hole. I tried to screw a screw in by pressing but nothing. It seems way thicker than you are describing. So If I were to bring this to a shop for the problem I'm having, they would have to replace the whole carb? I can't believe I may have to buy a whole new one on a new scooter to fix the issue with it not running. Wow

Ok what problem are you having, maybe you can prolong it a little but sooner or later you will have to get a carb that has a Fuel Ratio Screw. Why go to the shop and pay Labor and over priced carb that they will sell you. They are fairly cheap around 30.00 or so. You can order one yourself online and put it on yourself we will help you. It is very easy to do. Take a picture of the Carb on the side you should see some letters and or numbers It is probably a 18mm Carb. Alleyoop

The last time it was giving me this issue I put seafoam in the tank, adjusted the valves and adjusted the idle screw and all was fine and now its doing the same thing again. Do you HAVE to adjust the air/fuel valve. I can't for the life of me understand why a scooter would not have one if you NEED to adjust it to maintain it. I just don't get it.
Could it be anything else? Its like I'm driving fine then all of a sudden it like boggs and chuggs and wants to lose power so I slow down and stop and let it idle, it sounds fine but when I go to accelerate it won't accelerate and if i keep my hand on the throttle even a little it like threatens to turn off. Sorry I'm ranting and raving guys but I just can't believe I'm going through all this crap w a new scooter.

Oh ya I wouldn't go to the shop. I already invested too much in tools and want to take care of my own scooter. I'm just wondering if that is what they would have to do at the shop to fix this ... order another carb and install it. Oh get this today I was taking side faring off and part of it I was supposed to take off the luggage rack and couldn't because they ( the dealership) stripped the head all the way. Its the kind where u need an alan wrench. Well the day after I bought it I heard a lose piece of metal and it was the mid screw for the luggage rack, so they took the whole thing off to inspect it and when putting it back on stripped the hell out of is so now I can't get it off if I need to get the faring off again

Check you Air Filter, it may be Dirty or have oil on it from the Valve Vent Tube. If you can adjust the Valves putting on a Carb will be a piece of cake for you.
Before the EPA got smart they used to come with a CAP some still do but I guess it depends on the year and model. Now they require them to be actually Plugged, they set them to run really LEAN in order to pass emissions, so they run well for a while then as things get worn in they need more gas and you cannot give it more gas cause the DAMN THING IS PLUGGED.
