I currently own a 2007 Bashan Eagle.....I purchased it with 170 miles on it in August and have put just over 1K on it. The scoot has a few scrapes that I put but has been garage kept and maintained well. Its not that I am unhappy with it cause Im really happy with it BUT I am thinking of purchasing a new one. My main issue is this. I purchased it not only for cruising but to travel to work as well. To get to work there is a main drag probably around 6 miles long that is 55mph. In order to get my scoot up to 53 which according to the manual, I pretty much have to ride WOT which is NOT good for my engine. I also do not have a tac on my scoot so I have no idea what RPM I am traveling at. So far knock on wood, I have not had any issues while traveling as far as people tailgating me or making me feel uncomfortable. I simply keep in the right lane and leave it at that. I don't need a scoot to go 100mph or nothing crazy. Was wondering if you guys could suggest a specific brand that could say top out at 60+ with no issues meaning I could hit 55 without have to ride WOT. I see a lot of Roketa scoots on craigslist for decent prices. I would be willing to pay around $1500 (obviously used scoot) So my main questions are:
1. what brand of scoot would you recommend? Reliability/Performance 2. what do you think is a fair price to sell my current scooter?

Perhaps you are expecting too much from a motorscooter, and would be better served with the purchase of a motorcycle.

If you want to go those kinds of speeds without taxing the engine you'll have to upgrade to a 200cc..end of story. You're not going to get squat for your used scooter, maybe a few hundred if you can find some guy that doesn't know anything about scooters. I'm not being mean or demeaning, I'm a realist. Keep the old scooter as a backup, an endtable, or a paperweight. If you're willing to go $1,500.00 put a crowbar in that wallet and snag one of these deals before there are gone FOR GOOD!
Click on pic for link to CF Moto 250cc fashion
It has come down to $1,799.00!! That is as inexpensive as I have ever seen it. Yes, it's fugly, we all know that. It's also CF Moto, the best Chinese manufacturer out there. I have a CF Pegasus, it's built like a tank. This scooter is cloned from the Honda Helix a design that was proven over decades. John, who owns Valley Scooters, is a good guy that stands behind his product and will actually answer the phone if you have a problem. I have personally purchased from John and he will make sure you're happy with your purchase. Having said that, John is a few bricks short of a load but I like that in a person. . After having seen that new lower price I'm trying to talk the wife into buying a fashion, wish me luck. Rich

Some of the fuel injected 175ccs will do 65+mph fairly easily, but for what you want a 250cc would be my minimum choice...
For your 2007 I wouldn't think you could get much over $500 for it. It is 4-5 years old now, although the mileage is low...but ask $650 and see if you get any bites...

Craigslist is a wonderful place to find Chinese 250s for not much money. I know this will start a controversy but many 16" wheeled 150s would run at 55 mph without blowing their lungs out. Numerous places are selling those online for $1200 delivered for a 2008 model. The Znen models are usually quite well constructed and ready for a few miles at 55 mph.

i have a roketa 150 and a clone, 1 has 6k the other 2k, i rode the clone to work for about a yr through the winter and yes it snowed alot it did fine up untill one day went on a back road on a rainy day through a creek that was a little 2 deep it spuddered and stopped running other than that a 150 will do the job. if u ride it with some sense about it .and yes it stayed at 55 for that 6k miles .u can bye a new 150 now for 800 buxs shipped to your door.i like the roketas because they are put together bit better than the other chinese brands ill have some pics of mine up today sometime.

55 mph on the speedo is not 55mph it is probably about 48-50 mph GPS..
The problem is you have no reserve power on a 150cc at those speeds and the engines simply don't last long...
It is power in reserve that will get you out of trouble...every time...

The specs on the website for the Roketa scooter claims Max Speed of 85kmh.. which is what I would expect about 52.8 mph on the chinospeedo and in real GPS MPH is maybe 48-50 with a strong wind at your back...
However well tuned and broken in, you should get 60+mph from a 175cc I would think, but too close to call.

going with just enough to get you by like getting a 180 or 200 probably is not going to be the answer. you wouldn't think of buying a car that has a top speed of 57 mph would you? In my opinion a 150 unless it is a efi is good for a 40/45mph speed limit road. the honda 150 would work but it is a $4000 scooter, for less than 1/2 of that you can get the helix clone as been mentioned, or other new 250's. john
