Here's a short thread about some thoughts on a Silverwing. Smorkle is the only guy I can think of that has a Silverwing but there's probably more. You can go to his profile by clicking here and send him a personal message asking him about his bike. He won't bite, well, not TOO hard. Rich

I have a 2002 Honda Silver Wing and I love it. I use it to commute 50 miles each way when the weather permits. It's very economical and fun and comfortable on longer rides.
The farthest I have taken it is from Huntsville Alabama to Louisville Kentucky and back in one weekend. I went with three others and the additional storage I had was invaluable. It does great at interstate speeds and on curvy back roads.
My Swing has about 17,000 miles on it. It had 4K on it when I bought it in 2010. I have replaced the front tire once and the rear tire twice. I have had the variator belt replaced once at the recommended time.
I think it's just about the best combination of economical/flexible/useful you can get in a two-wheel vehicle.

I have a Roketa 250B, which I purchased new in 2010, but was shipped with a 2008 title. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but started to have some problems with it at about 1,000 miles of use. I have an aquaintance who was interested in getting a scooter, and I sent him an ad which I had found on the Detroit Craig's List for a 2006 Silverwing for $3,800 with just under 6,000 miles on it. He didn't go to look at it, and after several days of thinking about it and the problems I was having with the Roketa, I went and bought the Silverwing. Quite a difference in performance, which would be expected with 600cc vs 250cc. The unit feels a lot more solid while I'm riding it. In all fairness to Roketa, the Honda is about $7,500 new ($3,800 used) vs $1,600 for the Roketa. Because I'm not as handy with repairs and adjustments as I think is required for Roketa owners, I opted for the more reliable Honda. I have had the Silverwing on the freeway at 75MPH, and it was very comfortable, and had quite a bit left on the throttle. When we had some nice Fall weather here in Michigan and leaves were in full color a few weeks ago I took a nice long ride to the western part of the state--combination of freeway traffic and country roads. It was a beautiful ride and the Silverwing was great.

I've been dying to haul my scooter up there during the summer.

I rode from my home in Dearborn Hts on I96 to Howell, where I switched over to Grand River Drive, which I took through Fowlerville, Williamston, Okemos, Lansing, to Grand Rapids. I then went north on 44 to Rockford and then headed back East to Belding, Ionia, and then on 21 to Fowler, Pewamo, St Johns, Ovid, Burton, Owosso, Corunna, and then SE on 71 and then some county roads to Bancroft, Bath, Byron, Linden, and Fenton, and then back on 23 and 96 to home. It was a total of 315 miles. I had intended to go to the Lake Michigan shore, and then north to 10, east on 10 to 127, and then back to home base, but I got a later start, so broke it off at Grand Rapids. A couple of days ago we had a mid-50's day, so I rode out Hwy 12 through Saline, Clinton, the Irish Hills, to Moscow, and then north through Hanover, Horton, Spring Arbor, and Jackson. From Jackson I took 106 NE through Pleasant Lake, Munith, Stockbridge, and Gregory. Then on 36 through Pinckney, Lakeland, Hamburg, Whitmore Lake, and up to South Lyon and New Hudson, and then Grand River Avenue southeast to my home area. This ride was 176 miles. Scooting has been a fine excuse to go wherever seems interesting through lots of little towns. I'm sure you miss some of your Michigan life, but by living in Florida you can scoot year around.
