This is only marginally related to scooters but you can scoot and fish together.
Sunday night my good friend Dr. JR called and eventually the conversation turned to fishing. He told me all about his fishing trip for "brim" - that's bream for us Yankees, otherwise known to us as "bluegills". He told me all about the species of sunfish in Arkieland and what he uses for bait.
I've been out once this year and caught a couple nice Spring smallmouths. Note, I use artificials and mainly a variety of Rapalas. Original gold is my favorite, 2 1/2 to about 4 inches.
So, what do you folks fish for and what's your favorite bait?

You have the top water bit right Luke! I think that's the most fun when they hit it on the surface then maybe jump a couple times coming in.
Tilapia - we don't have them up here. How are they when it comes to fight? I've eaten them but never caught one.
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE Boat!

tilapias are not as much grabber/fighter as bass. but more tastier when cooked. i use artificial worms in catching tilapia. thanks-it's a 97 seadoo/110hp rotax. i managed to set up a trolling motor mount in front end, doesn't look good by it attached to a sport boat but serves the purpose tho. i rocked the sport boat forum when they saw a trolling motor attached to a sport boat, they all freaked out.and jumped on me. anyway! friend of mine caught some good sized tilapias/two were carp lying on the floor. a random guy caught a huge bass/now this is a Largemouth bass tournament size, everybody's longing to catch one before they die.

Darn Luke, you have some big ones out there. That guy is surely lucky. We have some largemouth bass in the lakes near here that'll break 7 lbs but the biggest I've caught is about 5. Same with smallmouth. One evening 2 years ago I got a 5lb and a pair of 4's but that's the best I've ever done. 15"/2 1/2 - 3 lb are nice ones around here.
I see a bow. So you bow fish?

I have two ponds about a mile from me. One has largemouth in it and they average 2-2.5 lbs. but I have pulled a 5 pounder out of it last year. There is also a hidden pond acreoss the road that has easily 5 lb. smalls in it. This pond is so small, I can cast almost across it. The problem is that it's tough to get through the weeds to it and also, if you catch one or two, you are done because the others get spooked. I can't wait to take my scoot fishin this year. Gotta buy a collapsible rod to fit under the seat. Nice boat...wife would kill me.

Well, I see I got things going there. JR should have something to talk post about for months. Nice homemade barometer there old friend!
Jon - nice looking family, nice fish. You need to get us some muskie, northern and walleye pix from the land of the lakes.
mthomas - some of the biggest bass I've caught have come from farm ponds so go get 'em!

Jon - I have a question. Since sturgeon don't exist here, what do you catch them on? A long time ago, I read an article where they used gobs of seaweed for sturgeon.

I'll grill it but I will not catch it, unhook it or clean it. THAT is the MAN'S job!

speaking of grilling and fishing at the same time, we used to keep all the med and large bullheads we caught. pain in neck to clean small cat type fish....so...one diagonal chop and take top and tail section and toss on hot charcoal fired grill. liberally shoot hot sauce on it. skin sribbles up and drops in fire. roll over for the other side. if you are carefull the meat does not stick and you can get it onto your plate. you do need more than one or two (lots of um) to be worth while lighting off the grill. john

Jon - I have a question. Since sturgeon don't exist here, what do you catch them on? A long time ago, I read an article where they used gobs of seaweed for sturgeon. Just a gob of night crawlers on a large circle hook. Let it sit on the bottom of the river until she bites. The fight they put up is unbelievable. I didn't make this trip, but this is on the MN-Canada border this April: I've never eaten a sturgeon, but would like to try it sometime. I usually a CPR guy, catch, photo, and release. www.idofishing.com/forum/showflat.php/Board/cats/Number/894280/page/0/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/186/fpart/all

Thanks Jon. Those are some big, strong fish. I never imagined they'd fight like that. They have that long body like a pike or a muskie and I imagine the runs they make are something else.
