Is there a disc brake upgrade for the rear of 150cc scooters?

your present right side shock mount might already have the places to mount a caliper that are just not drilled and tapped or maybe they are which would be great. in that case its just a matter of getting a disc brake wheel, disc, caliper, line and master cylinder/lever. if they are not there at all you need the bracket too. some of those did come with a rear disc so you would just have to locate a bracket from salvage. I am presently converting a QMB to dual rear shocks/rear disc brake

If it was me I would not spend any extra money for disk on rear of a 150. I have a disk on my 150 and yes it does work a tad better than drum, I have drum rear on my 180. but as far as I am concerned a rear brake is to keep my rear end passing the front. Most of my braking is done with the front with the exception of slippery surfaces. I have pirelli tires to help with those. If you get the parts for little or nothing go for it, but the drum works fine. money would be better spent on soft tires and a host of other improvements that can be had for your 150. If you are going to run like you are on a race track you are probably riding the wrong thing anyway. as far as looks go a disk only is going to look better if you are trying to justify the money you spent on one. a disk on the front is a big improvement over drum but not much on a rear brake. if your drum can lock up the rear it is good to go. I use both brakes but just keep a little pressure on the rear for a just in case type of thing. I been riding for 53 years or so and been knocked down once due to a driver exiting behind bushes and maybe a 1/2 second of braking to impact at 10-15 mph. john

I agree with John, better to spend that money on a good front Tire which will hold better on wet or slippery roads. The front is the one you want to hold the road when making turns. Alleyoop

Most people don't use the brakes correctly...
85% of your stopping power comes from the front disc.. you use both brakes on a scooter to stop.
Properly adjusted rear drums are fine.. they prevent the rear-end cutting loose on you.. which is what it is supposed to do...
The front disc stops the scooter...the drum stops it in a straight line...
The only advantage to a rear calliper is the pads are easy to change than the shoes on a drum

Yup garages across America are filled with scooters that someone tried and can't fix ...most often the only problems are tight valves and storing them with fuel in the tank, broken belt and sideways variator weights... If you can pick them up for $150 and spend two hours on them and re-sell you could probably double your money easily!

not only that but a chinese scooter has to be the most under rated/over rated device known to man. some one who has a "running" 2005 or is it 2006 150 in the nezt town who actually paid to advertise it in the local paper for around $1200! and....I have seen used one for as much as 1800 for one as old or older with 30 miles on it. john
