my set up goes: tank, fuel filter, petcock, carb. should it be tank, petcock, filter, carb? I always put the filter between the pump and the carb, but some put it between the tank and the pump. Either way as long as the junk doesn't reach the carb. I put it between the pump and the carb because I have a long run of FUEL hose from the Fuel Pump to the Carb. My Fuel tank is up front so I want to catch the stuff the hose from the fuel pum to my carb. Over time the inside of the fuel hoses start to break down and the fuel filter will catch it before it reachs the Carb. Then you just change out the fuel filter but your carb is still clean. Others may tell you different so take your pick(HAHA). Alleyoop Sorry I cannot help with the Muffler never taken one apart. But if you take both ends off the inside should come out may need some pushing. But if you think something is welding take a long piece of hard piece of metal wood etc.. and try to go around in the inside to see if you hit a bar or something welded to the inside of the wrapping.

this is what the muffler looks like. i was going to take pics of me removing it and stripping the rivets from the muffler but my woman was on the phone while i was doing so, then when i was dl\one i was fighting with muffler for several hours. ( use an android because im too cheap for a real camera lol ) heres what the muffler looks like. now it might look bad but its just the resin off of the pipe, there are NO leaks in it what so ever.
