OK, I took the CVT cover off of my Bashan 150cc and the gasket tore, obviously since it should have stayed on the inner case. Now my question is, do these sections that tore actually serve a purpose or could they be trimmed off and the gasket reused? Second, do you need the cover at all? I see a lot of MC's with exposed drive belts and I've seen exposed clutches and variators on this very site. Rich

I really don't think you need them. Mine broke off a long time ago and I just left it off. The CVT Cover fits on there real nice and tight anyway. And also most take the Foam Filter off the intlet to help cool off the inside and as you say a lot of people open up the Variator Side as well as the Clutch area so whats the point. Alleyoop

the gasket is an extra part . Without it you just gained .0000000000001 mph in weight savings Keep up the good work

I trimmed off the part you tore. I just have it running around the outside of the cover. When I put the aftermarket variator on I had to trim the gasket down all around the variator area so it wouldn't rub. Zug

Thanks, those tabs are superfluous then. Now, could I just leave the cover off and ride it? Would it possibly hurt the mechanism? Rich

Removing the foam/screen on the cover air intake is fine - keeps things a little cooler, but the amount of road gunk that we find on these screens would indicate that so much more debris and gunk would end up in the variator and belt and clutch - without a cover. We often do not bother replacing the gasket for the cover if it is too torn up. Basically want to keep things as clean as possible without air flow constriction...

Ok, thanks that answers my question, the cover stays without the air filter cap. I reset the valves today while I had it apart, they were way off, that's probably why it was stalling when I stopped and then would start again after it cooled off some. I put the chrome intake on, now I gotta put the new jet in the carb, install the Uni, and put the CVT cover on. I'll post some pictures in engine mods in the next day or two. Thanks for your help, Rich

Here is what I did with my front intake port. Here is what my final product looks like. and a pic of the full side view of The Punisher just because I think my scoot is bad arse! I haven't had a gasket since the first time I took my cover off. I did put a little RTV selant on it just to cushion the two parts and it works great.

Jake, I purchased the CVT cover from Parts for Scooters. www.partsforscooters.com/169-41?sc=11&category=74091 The chrome on it really shines. I was worried it would be a piece of junk, but it's well made has 3 vents over the variator and as you can see the clutch is fully vented.
