My father-in-law Dale sent me this movie from WW II about the Ford B-24 plant up in Michigan in an e-mail. It's 9 MBs so it might take a bit to download. My Dad flew B-24s during the war:
Ford's B-24 Bomber Plant at Willow Run, MI Henry Ford was determined that he could mass produce bombers just as he had done with cars. He built the Willow Run assembly plant and proved it. It was the world's largest building under one roof. Even then FORD HAD A BETTER IDEA! This film will absolutely blow you away - one B-24 every 55 minutes. ADOLF HITLER HAD NO IDEA THE U.S. WAS CAPABLE OF THIS KIND OF THING. There is no way he could have even guessed. For those who live outside of Michigan , Willow Run is near Bellville, Canton and Ypsilanti , MI It's amazing that one B-24 (built with over 1.225 million parts) came off the assembly line every 55 minutes Take a few minutes to watch this snapshot of history:

Awesome, just think if they would build scooters. With machine guns.
My dad was a radio operator on C-47s C-54s and C-46s during the Berlin Airlift, the greatest humanitarian effort of all time, supplying 2.5 million people by air for 11 months, with a takeoff every 3 minutes during operations.

My father-in-law died a few years ago at age 91. During his last few years he talked often about the bomber plant. He was a union official there. The pride he showed when he talked about the plant is why it was so successful. Thanks for the video.

This is a post WW2 idea by the French ! It didn't get too far !
Well it probably did get far, until they shot the gun.......then it moved back about 100 yds......very rapidly. RichMy father-in-law died a few years ago at age 91. During his last few years he talked often about the bomber plant. The pride he showed when he talked about the plant is why it was so successful.
My Dad would have been about that age a few years ago. He swelled with pride when he talked about the war too, it was the only time you'd see him misty. Whether overseas or at home everybody joined together back then as one for the common good. We've lost something in this country. Rich
