FANTASTIC A MUNDOOOOOOOO!!! Now that is what a call an EXPERMINTAL SCOOT no panels so as to get to everything and able to see all the goodies on it.
Once you put the STAMP OF APPROVAL on the project. A straight forward Thread on HOW-TO and connections would be nice. No pressure mind you just saying would be nice GOOD JOB RICH and thank you for the Science Project. Alleyoop

I have said it before, ......when Honda designed the gy6, I wish they had also scaled it up maybe 25% so that we all would not have to work so hard with mods. maybe a gy7? well all of this happened what 25 or more years ago, and it's way late to do any thing about it. . a simple air cooled clone just a bit bigger so we could travel on the highway with out WOT. a little bigger stator that would carry all the extras we all want too. now its make do with what we have to work with. 200cc's would suit me real fine. and still have all the aftermarket parts, could have our cake and eat it too.
the only small motors that seem to like WOT are 2 strokes like weed wackers, chainsaws, and outboard motors. john

Just so you know... the Honda thing is a myth...
Honda didn't design the GY6... just a few parts of it... like the CVT.. they never had an engine remotely like it...
The original GY6 was a 50cc .. so it has been upscaled...

Rich I admire your dedication . your frankin scoot is great for testing parts . so I have been thinking about taking an 11pole stator and adding more windings for more power . so a small gear driven sprocket to spin a shaft and another flywheel would double your power .

Thanks for the nice words guys. John, are you trying to power up the eastern seaboard with your scooter again? ;D I've been looking at pages like this guy's. I thought I might get another stator and try to rewind it with as much wire as it will hold and see what kind of juice it makes. You can see this guy's using a Trail Tech R/R also, they must be indestructible. Rich

I'm thinking of doing this and possibly rewinding the stator. The e.f.i.system is straining the charging. I don't really have a problem with it except when I do short runs or stop and go a lot. Plus I would like to add hard wire power for my gps and maybe more lighting.

More wire on the coils=more juice. I think I could add about 20% more wire to a stock GY6 and get rid of the stupid crisscross meandering wire pattern they have on the OEM. I took Frankie out on the road today for the first time and it performed beautifully. With the RPMs up the Trail Tech keeps the DC volts right at 13 or a little over with everything on. The dash didn't turn into the sail problem I thought it might. In fact, it kept a lot of the wind off of my face and chest. I'm still waiting on the ammeter (I hate it that they don't put a P in that word!). Rich

Just so you know I did the upgrade from 6pole 4pin to 11poll 7pin I have plenty power . parts with shipping just under $100 John

It is an 8 pole/4 wire dual ignition stator. Will an 11 pole stator fit on a 139 engine? If so it will be easy to swap parts. But then it wouldn't be a diy project and I wouldn't be able to say I done it. I can rewire the stator for next to nothing. I have lots of magnetic wire of various sizes lying around, left over from winding my own transformers. It would only cost for a new regulator.

I would like to think it will , I have my old 6poll stator and a caliper . As far as the diy you would be going from a 1/2 wave single phase to 3 phase full wave rectifier . If I were certain the 7pin regulator could handle a rewind of an 11pole stator I might entertain the idea .
Rich , where did you find that link in post #80 that is A+++

Question Rich... why doesn't Trail Tech make a decent stator that fits a GY6-150s??? Wouldn't that maybe be a good business decision? Sorry Sprocket, I was going through this thread looking for a link and saw your post I had previously meant to respond to. While bothering the tech guys at Trail Tech with endless questions I asked if they just made a plug and play for GY6 scooters. They politely answered we only sell Yamaha, Honda, and KTM kits at this time. I explained that there would probably be a huge market for scooter kits and they responded with "we have no plans for that at this time". Apparently they have all they need working with the dirt bikes. I guess that's what they do anyway....isn't it? Rich

I have the Trail Tech regulator, and was able to modify my GY6 stator as described above. However, I am wondering how you were able to free everything from frame ground? Like the starter? It is grounded, and the battery also needs to be grounded for the starter to work? Even if you unground all the lights, and then connect them to the negative side of the regulator output, then connnect all those connections to the negative of the battery, which is grounded by the starter, then the regulator will become grounded as well?
How did you over come this problem?
Michael

When you float the ground you don't have to float EVERYTHING. Just leave the starter motor and battery grounded.. no big deal...
