I am in no way an expert, but I remembered posting some shots for Bob a while back. The only aid you may get from this is seeing what it looks like when you can actually get it all apart. Unfortunately all the screws you need to access to get to the latch are under the seat.... Take a look at the couple of pics in this thread and I will try to get under mine tonight for more advice. scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=250cc&action=display&thread=5055&page=1

Grocerygetter, you have a good memory. I have a link to this and have saved the pictures. Still waiting for the opportunity to make my move to fix the latches. Probably this summer when the temps are too hot to ride will be the time. I don't legally need to wear a helmet but my skull is already broken so for me to have a future I need to wear one in case of a problem, accident or stupid move that leads to the ground. Even in mildly warm weather my head is doing a slow broil inside that plastic box I wear.
I plan to do a photo follow up of that effort, including closeups of how the latches look before and after. Best I can see now is that the cable is likely OK but not properly routed so no action on the longer, rear latch cable.
Above in the link I posted was a 'fix' that worked some time back, of just slamming on the cover by the latch and it somehow caused the seat to release. It that is a true report then definitely it is worth a try. Just don't know if the author of the problem is still following this thread. .

Take the side panels off, on the side where your key lock is located. Start with the bottom panel, then the top panel (this is the panel the lock is located on. You may need to remove a screw that is behind the center cowl (down by your feet) to get the top panel off. You will also need to remove the passenger handle grip on that side. Once you have the panel off you can see the where the cable mounts to the lock. Since yours is broke, the cable is probably hanging there. Take a pair of vice grips and lock on to the broken end of the center cable. Take a different pair of pliers and close them down between the vice grips and the end of the sheathing to your cable. Now pull on the vice grips and push on the other pair of pliers. Your lock should pop open.

Unfortunately the locked seat blocks the screws on the top of the panel. Also noted by another poster is the rear panels are joined at the back and can not be separated so both sides would come off together.
Too bad the original poster has not returned for some time now. I would like to hear from him with the pounding on the rear plastic by the latch. Did it open the lock? .

guess the original poster must of figured it out? I was wandering what scoot model I have a 2009 Jonway YY250T-2/MC-13-250 and no rear latch, just the side, figuring it must be the YY250T or I believe same as MC-54?
