it will get hot , mount it in the air stream . I have not seen it on a scooter , I have seen them on old chrysler's with old point ignition system . When you use it to hold the charging voltage down I would think it should be wired to to red wire on the regulator . You may want to change the wire from the battery to and from the ignition switch to a heaver gauge wire . If I were you I would hold off till a diagram is checked for a positive answer .

Correct me if I am wrong PLEASE!!!!!! I have yet to see someone install one of these. The description says "it's just that" with no info on what the hell it does. I predict it's a useless part (correct me if I'm wrong) I should leave well enough alone but, What the heck is the point of this part? Seems we all need one but, what the hell does it do? ?

it needs to be connected to switched power . It puts a load on the charging system all the time . It will keep your voltage down .

So it's basically a currant stabilizer or resistor? I almost bought one myself so No offense to the OP. I am curious as to how/what it works on.... Forgive my ignorance on electrical parts!!!! I know how ballasts work with lighting systems but, This confuses me me. Is it the same thing or am I just an idiot for asking. I don't get it.... Sorry again for my ignorance!!!

Bong , interesting it is very different from a lighting ballast , a lighting ballast steps up voltage . Aballast resistor will suck down / load down voltage . There is a lot more to the difference . In order to explain what each one does would be something to talk about when you have some time .

It would be a lot better to find out why you are having problems rather than to make new ones. These scooters were designed to to charge properly and making the stator do more work than it already has to keep the charging right is not going to help things.

They are simply a load... to balance the power generation and power use... They haven't been used much since about 2006-7, but some scooters have two of them.. the second one is on the enricher... They are flakey and burn out and then the battery gets over charge voltage.. huge pain in the butt.. but if your scooter is designer with one... then you need one... Attachments:

Put it anywhere in the circuit, it will act as a load...make certain it is grounded well to the frame and somewhere that air can blow across it...they get hot...
Probably better to find out what is wrong with the stator or rectifier/regulator
