Sprocket , he has the 4pin regulator . Its interesting you say they stopped useing the ballast resistor . When I went through the 4 pin regulator , it was suggested to me to use the ballast resistor . I'm starting to think that the difference in the 4 pin regulator is the older style as your stating about 07 or older needed the ballast resistor . Then when ther designed the regulator (4pin) in my 08 they made a change in the regulator and not needing the ballast resistor . Did I make any sense ?

Yes the 2008 scooter generally had more lights and load.. they went to 35W35 headlights and dual tail lights.. the system was balanced this way and the resistor was dropped...

I have become a fan of the 7 pin regulator , it has a feedback wire that goes to switched power . Based on what the voltage feedback is it adjusts to dc output of the regulator . If you ground it it will spike the output voltage 16+ volts , connected it sits at about 14.2vdc at idle . The best part of the deal is all the part places have the regulator ready to go no mystery .

I'm working on my brother's scooter (Longbo 150cc), which also has an overcharging problem (and blowing headlights) and after replacing a few electronic components and having two bad regulators, I decided to check the wiring once more. Turns out I had a short. The yellow wire going from the stator to the regulator had continuity with ground. I didn't think that was good so I 'unwrapped' all the wires in the harness and looked for damaged wires. I found some bundles of yellow wires soldered together which led to check what they all branched out to. I discovered that unplugging the enricher solved my problem. I checked continuity between the two terminals on the enricher plug and it was present, so it appears there's a short in my enriched wiring. I ordered a new enricher and regulator so I'll know for sure when they come in.
Quick question, this scooter has a center light in the front that uses a small bulb, similar to the license plate bulb. The bulb holder was rubber that hardened and broke so it no longer holds the bulb. I decided to just disconnect it. Do you think that alone will decrease the load enough to cause problems? I wouldn't think so, but if it does, perhaps adding one of these resistors would help. The scooter didn't come with one originally. Then again, it was bought second hand so I don't really know for sure.

No those bulbs are just 6 or 8 watts...shouldn't have too much impact on the charge system.

My 08 has a ballast resister but it looks to be in line with the ground side of the enrisher and reduces the voltage to 6.5 when I checked it with the fluke meter. Is this normal as I do not see the same device on a friends 08 Both of our voltages seem proper and stable. Could this be of any help.

Ya most enrichers before 2008 had resistors.. now they are built into the enricher or not required
