Total Noob question:
Is it POSSIBLE to have my engine running backwards (i.e. Counterclockwise.) Thus casing it not to start properly?
Failure is not an option!!!

No, and your not the first to ask that. The cams and trigger coil are oriented to one direction, it won't operate any other way. What is it doing? Maybe we can help you out. Rich

Rich, I am having an issue with the engine turning in the right direction, I can not turn the engine clockwise on the fan side and counterclockwise on the variator side. I KNOW I did everything that I was supposed to and this is starting to confuse me. I have worked on this for a while and I love the challenge and more than that I love the fact I learn a great deal from this project. Now I need to hear it run. Right now it's not and I can not figure out why.

Awhile back I made the mistake of telling someone to turn an engine backwards. Sprocket caught it and explained there was a device in the valve assembly to prevent the engine from running backwards that would lock the exhaust valve open if you turned the engine backwards. I understood that it would require some disassembly to repair it.
Frankly it made no sense to me. A 4t cannot "run" backwards. It could fire once BTDC and spin backwards but not "rum" but I have yet to catch sprocket wrong (I Might not all ways 100% agree) but wrong - never!!!. And there is a mechanism there that I have no other explanation for. So - I think he is right even if I do do not understand it. Cheers
Hope that helps

I will check the valve when I get home, but that still confused as to why the engine will only turn counterclockwise.

If the flywheel or variator were a wheel on the ground , when the engine is cranking would the scooter role fowards or backwards ? John

GY6 has a cam stopper on the exhaust valve.. if the engine starts in reverse the mechanism opens the exhaust valve... it is safety feature. You may want to check that it is not damaged or broken and bouncing around under the valve cover...they do NASTY things to the valve springs and eventually fall into the engine and BANG!!!! Should it be engaged you need to rotate the engine forward (counterclockwise) with the variator.. they can be VERY stiff..may need a socket and a breaker bar to get it free Attachments:

holy crap i think mine is missing i or i am an idiot and don't remember seeing it. They don't HAVE to be there, they're a protective feature. That being said they're not real obvious and easy to miss.
Gti, I watched your videos. You need brighter colored Crocs. If you pull the plug the engine will not rotate easily in the right direction....is that correct? Rich

OK, then pull the plug. You should be able to easily rotate the stator clockwise with your hands. See what that does. Rich
