I have a 150cc GY6 and have been looking for an exhaust that would help air flow a little better. I have been diggin through ScooterDawg and other forums to try and find information on exhausts but can seem to find any.

What is the difference between all the different exhaust. I keep seeing these expensive arse MRP exhausts for almost $350...

What is the difference between these? How do I know the header pipe is going to fit my engine? I have heard that there are 4 different types of GY6 exhaust fittings. I need some exhaust guidance.

Kind of makes me wonder too, a $350 exhaust for a $300 motor? I use a briggs and straton muffler that is a $9 item. john

First off, do not buy from Scootertronics. That is, unless you actually want the worst buying experience that you will ever have.

Secondly, you typically (but not always)get what you pay for. The MRP exhaust is good and will last, probably outlast your scooter. But, you can definitely get some really awesome ones out there for a fraction of the cost. One of the best options out there that is cost effective if you are up for some modding is Supertrapp. Completely customizable. You can adjust the sound and back pressure till you get the results that you want and they look pretty awesome too.

just remember, you get what you pay for as far as quality goes. ive already had my experiences with exhausts. just a few tips. dont go with the carbon fiber. they sure do look cool but they melt when you go on long rides or even short trips with allot of WOT. ive had one catch on fire at a stop light. my advice, go with stainless steel. another detail to look at with the SS mufflers. sure its nice to get a muffler for 80$ but they are cheap. you dont want anything with rivets! get one that is welded closed. after a month or so with a riveted exhaust, you will notice exhaust coming from around the rivets. i found one on amazon that was a stainless steel welded no rivets. it was 120, and about 135$ after shipping. like i said sure its nice to get one for 80$ but do you want to have to replace it later on down the road? the 120$ was good for me because it had good quality and i saved myself a 350$ heart attack by dodging the trapp. if your going for the budget build, i would get a briggs muffler as they are not really stylish but fully functional. here is the link for the one i purchased. hope this helps! happy scooting www.amazon.com/Scooter-Moped-Performance-Steel-Exhaust/dp/B005H98RGI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1335240486&sr=8-3

That is really good info, thank you. I have heard that there are different exhaust plug of fitting so I want to make sure I get the right one. Another thing that also scares me is the angel of the exhaust header. I have seen a lot of exhausts that have the header/exhaust angled upward. Mine need to be parallel to the ground. Should I have to bend the header to make it fit correctly or are there headers designed specifically for my fit?

Ill post a picture of my bike so you get a better idea of what I am talking about.

Ok, so here is the scoot in all her glory.

The one thing that concerns me is all of the exhausts that I see online are angled upward for the sportier scooters. Do I have to end up bending those headers to fit mine or are there exhausts that are more parrelle to the ground?

Sorry this one is so fuzzy. I had to squeeze my hand under the motor to take this with my phone... the two exhaust bold are not perpendicular to the side of the bike, they are angled slightly clockwise if you are sitting on the bike facing forward..

I could never figure what he deal is with all the up swept exhausts, cycles, scooters, and everything in between. I park all of mine inside but for those that sit out in the rain, their owners start complaining about rust and the muffler has something loose inside.

The older machines never had to deal with that crap and their mufflers are still working after 30 years too.

My bike is not even a year old, it is garage kept every night and the muffler is rusting, that is kinda lame... One of the many reasons why I am looking to switch out the exhaust

A person could drill a very small hole at the very bottom or lowest point on a muffler to let condensation drip out. I have done that with a distributor on a yugo that kept getting wet and it cured that. Just enough to let the water out and not enough to make noise. when they get rusting it is pretty much too late though but it might prolong the life some.

I am just worried about the bends in the header fitting my scoot... I've seen in other posts that people have taken their headers to mufflers shops and they can make small adjustements to help the header fit better. Has anyone else done that?
