it bogs down after 40mph, why By seanstr (Read 5,453 times)

I made the sounds with my own voice, but it is very similar. The exhaust is sealed, the head is good, the valves are adjusted, what would make this stall out/bog down? Vacuum lines & fuel lines are new. It should be able to do 50 to 55 mph but it can't get past 40mph. The noise is weird. I will edit or re record & put it on here tomorrow.

An air leak on the air filter side of the carb can do that, check everything from the air filter to the carb. A leak in your carb's diaphragm can do it also, pull the cap and inspect it. A bad coil can do it too, you'll have to swap for another to check that. I do want to hear the recording though. Rich

Make sure your intake clamp to carb and the back of carb going tito your air box is tight, mine was cutting out at 50+, got checking intake was loose a little, but I thought, I'll check that back one, sure enough that clamp took about 5 or 6 turns to tighten it. (just a thought)

It's pretty tight, the air intake that is. Can I just buy the diaphragm for the carb?

Ok You said the Magic word the sound is a BURPING sound. That means it is LEAN you need a little more fuel.

Things to fix it:
1. Try turning the Fuel Ratio 1/2 turn at a time COUNTER CLOCKWISE and try it after each 1/2 turn.

If number 1 does not help then try:
2. Raise the needle in the Diapghram

If number 2 still does not fix it then no choice:
3. Get the next bigger Main Jet.

Ok, put the Tums in the tank, but that just made it much worse. On a serious note, tried to get audio, sounds terrible can't hear noise.

Ok, weird thing just happened, just got home put gas in the scooter went to start it and it it won't, acts like there is no spark plug in it

Well Its time to get the VIDEO GOING BUD, you come up with different crap everyday.
You have to make sure what is the SOUND its makeing. DIfferent sounds means different things, IF IT POPS its way to RICH, IF it BURPS its to LEAN, If it Backfires its to LEAN.

Now the LEAN problem could be AIR LEAKS and nothing to do with fuel delivery OR it could be FUEL DELIVERY, Valves etc..

What do you mean no spark plug in it..no compession? The starter turns the engine over very quickly?
