There's been a lot of discussion about speedos, how accurate they are, and even some contentious threads about recalibration...........ahem, I digress. I recently bought a Tom Tom One GPS and have found out a couple things. One: a GPS DOES make a decent speedometer as they update the speed seemingly on a constant basis. Two: Sino speedos suck. While out on a long ride the other day the GPS was reading 50MPH at one point. My wife's Bashan 150 was reading 65, my Motorino Amore was closer at 55. The top speed of the Amore was 57 on a flat road according to the GPS, not bad for a retro, and the Bashan could eek out 62 although the speedo was pegged. Three: the Tom Tom is OK at finding your way around but it gives a limited view of where you're at. I'm sure the bigger ones work better in that regard. It does adhere quite well to the glass of the speedo with the clever suction device.

These are what I use as my Speedos Nuvi 255w and a Delorme PN-30 They both use the same type of mount base by Ram Mount. Ram Mounts are great. :-)

Funny you should mention PN-30 and Geocaching in the same sentence. I LOVE IT. I started geocaching sept 2008 I tried Garmin Etrex. Then I bought a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx which I have zero complaints it was and is a great unit. I did try the Delorme pn-20 great unit for price but painfully slow when you are used to using a 60. Picked up PN-30 and after working with it for about a month I never touched my 60 again. The paperless caching feature is Awesome. What I am really waiting for is the 2.8 firmware where you are able to put multiple gpx files with 1000 caches each in. Then you are able to load and unload on the fly. Should be out early June. Sorry for rambling and hijacking this thread but I will tell you the best way to geocache is while on a scooter. My DAD and I try to ScootCache as much as we can as offten as we can.

I havent taken my tomtom one on a scooter yet. I found pretty much the same thing as bash when I tested mine in a car. hard to tell where you are....hard to see in sunlight. but If you get lost all one needs to do is hit the go home thing or what ever they call that funtion and no longer lost. Think What I wrote on it I deleted when I was going to quit the scooterdawg forum. I deleted several months of what I wrote there. Then they cleaned up there act when lee came back. I bought a refurbished one that did not work and it was returned to get one that did work. I have several things electrical i want to do with my majesty when ever I get an excuse to pull the windshield, an outlet for the tomtom, beeper on turn signals, and a charge/jumping outlet for battery in the rear. My phone has stand alone GPS on it now so I am looking for a secure way to mount it. It is a $500 phone so I need it to be very secure. I have looked at the Ram mounts and I think they are the way to go. Any other suggestions?

No need to apologize about hijacking the thread. I think ScootCaching would be a great thread to start and I would do so but I have no idea what you're talking about! Start a topic if you wish or just eludicate on the subject a little if you feel like it. Rich

Well, this is all interesting: my experience with speedos has been variable - on the GY6, I have had some (limited) success with changing the front drive gear - even bending the inner tabs out a bit seemed to help on some..On the SYM HD 200 - just lived with it - they are all 5 to 7% optimistic. My Citycom is spot on accurate, and so are the other Citycoms I have sold. Re: the GPS , I have had two of them and used them frequently to test bikes - I think they were Garmins, I say "were" because I have a bad habit of leaving them in customers bikes after test rides - for some reason no one has returned them yet...My mechanic now uses his phone.. As for the other forum, I visit it daily - trying to help if I can, but also the entertainment factor (like soap operas), I joined it in 2007, when Lee was doing the reviews on the Peg...have always been grateful for his early advice - I downloaded his chinese scooter maintenance manual, where I found out the I should have changed the oil...
