I have a 2008 Roketa MC-150-70 that has a small oil leak. Any ideas on the most likely places to check. It is just leaking enough to be annoying. Thanks for any suggestions or personal experiences.

Where is the oil dripping down from, The tranny by the Clutch or by the Oil Plug on the other side give us a hint of where you see the drops.

It seems like somewhere in the center. I am hoping that the valve cover may be the problem. I am going to get into it tomorrow and see what I can find.

Put a newspaper etc under the engine so you can tell were the drip originates...if it is from a case seam and you are using synthetic oil, go back to regular dino oil and the leaks will usually stop... I found that 10W/40 works best...

Boy o boy,small world. Have put out questions of my own for leak on 150 omj. Belongs to friend who claims big leak,lot's of oil on the floor. I put paper out after we parked it. Not much? Seemed to come from front of engine. Under seat there's lots of over spray around valve cover but that's not enough for the puddles friend is claiming.I'll be keeping my eyes peeled to Kountryguy's site. I'll try what he does.

Likely a valve cover leak..or the vent hose on the valve cover..the fan blows it around under the plastic engine cover..pretty common

A picture of the oil leak when it is sitting there would maybe help also a picture of the Valve cover area. We are just guessing here so pictures maybe would help.

i bet you that its your cam chain tensioner gasket. mine blew out at 800 miles and for the life of me i could not figure out where it was coming from. finally found it and a 5$ bottle of high temp black RTV silicone fixed the problem, find it at any auto part store. if its leaking from the tensioner, and you do have to take it off to re-seal it, be carefull not to even look at your scoot the wrong way, dont want it jumpin out of time lol. hope u find the leak, happy scootin'

I'm after the same hidden leak on a 150. Mine has a black rubber cover that hides the tensioner. I'm bout ready to start engine after some other gasket sealing will I see the leak with cover on?

Sure, if it's bad enough it will ooze out from it. Can't you take the cover off?

On my GY6 Bashans the cam can't jump time even with the tensioner off. You have to tilt the cam to get it out of the chain even after the retaining bracket is off. BTW, when you reinstall the tensioner you have to release it with a screwdriver on the slotted screw.

You can make a gasket from Permatex material you get at the Auto store. The silicone maker works well but it's messy IMO. Rich

yes it is messy, and that black plastic cover over top of the tensioner is what threw me off from noticing it right away. i had to have washed my scoot 20 times that week trying to locate the source of the leak. imo i would rather have the tensioner leak then the valve gasket. both easy fixes though. if it is the tensioner, upon reinstall, as bashan stated, you have to release the tensioner once its installed back on the motor, i would give it a decent quarter turn after it stops just to insure its nice n snug, but NOT too tight you dont want to wear out your chain guide, that would be very bad happy scootin'

Just an update. I replaced the valve cover gasket, cleaned things up as best I could, and thought that had done the trick. Went for a couple short(<10mi.) rides-no drip. The third day, after about a 20 mile ride, the drip returned. My problem now, besides 100* temps, is finding a time when I can do without the scooter to really get into it and not have to put it back together without parts or time to fix it. I am using 10-40 Synthetic oil. I may try some regular 15-40 and see if anything changes. Any other suggestions? Thanks

kountryguy, some times the only solution for oil leaks especially the small ones is to dump the synthetic oil and go back to real oil. If there is the tiniest pin hole synthetic will find its way through it. john

Yup John is right..it is called 'wicking'...

Ok, will try different oil. Can anyone tell this non-mechanic where to find the cam chain tensioner cover gasket ? I have looked at some of the diagrams, and do not see that labeled. Thanks.
