scooter bogs down when i throttle it By neva (Read 56,814 times)

UGH.

okay so I'm leaving work yesterday, running an errand before going home on the hottest day of the year so far(100+f) . And right as I pull out, I realize that something is wrong (again!) about 2 seconds after i throttle my scooter, it will bog down almost to a complete stop. and I have to release the throttle and slowly rethrottle it again for it to go, but once it gets past like halfway, it will bog down again after 2 seconds. I pulled over and checked the oil because after replacing the gas filter, and the fuse last week, its the only other thing i could think that could possibly go wrong. The oil was low so I kept throttling, letting it go, and throttling it again basically using the momentum from the little bit of speed i could get to get to a gas station and put oil in it, thinking that would fix it. but it didnt, whatsoever.
This scooter is a little over a month old, it should still be brand new. It has 430 kilometers on it. I was praying it was just from being out in the heat yesterday, so I figured I wouldnt touch it overnight and I'd try it first thing this morning, instead of running here and posting new topics everytime something goes wrong on my scooter...now I do realize these cheap chinese scooters do have issues at first that you have to iron out so I'm trying to be patient but now its causing me to miss work today, so I'm quickly losing what little patience I have. also the exhaust is making a weird almost like a faint crackling noise for a few days before this started happening. I would be forever thankful for any help or suggestions or even where to start with this problem. thanks for taking the time out to read my issue!!

It might be fuel starvation. The bowl empties out and it starts bogging.... you back off for a bit and it gets a chance to refill....repeat. The easiest test is loosen the gas cap and see if that does anything for the venting. If it doesn't try putting on a new fuel filter, a new bike can get a shot of crud out of the tank. Rich

I realized last week that the gas filter had a tiny crack in it, so i replaced it and it was fine. I did notice that the gas filter was completely full of gas this morning, but was told thats normal. I will take a closer look at it when I get back home in a few hours

Why was your oil low with only 400 miles on the scooter? You need to check that more often...like every week

I suspect with low oil and high heat you had a soft seize... not enough lubrication...you likely haven't done much damage yet. But you need to change your oil immediately and do not overfill it...read the manual I forget how much the 50cc take...not a full quart or certain..

The mufflers always make sounds on these scooters as they cool or heat up.

its 400 kilometers, not even 400 miles, i'd say 250 miles and the sticker next to the oil cap says to change the oil every 1000 miles so i really didnt even think to check it. but i put 3/4ths of the bottle of oil in it yesterday and it didnt help at all. I'll be home in an hour or so so I'm gonna check it out again and I'm really praying its running better than it was last night and this morning.

Actually oil in these engines should be changed at 500 kms...at break in it should have been done when new..because chinese oil is terrible then again at 150 kms...need to change the gear oil too..it takes 90 SAE gear oil...buy it in a squirt bottle

Be aware that overfill is as bad as not having enough oil...follow the manual...

hey.. my scoot suddenly bogged down ,started back up, and ran fine on idle ,but as soon as i opened the throttle  it died, this happened many times,i drained some petrol into a glass from the carb over flow, and it separated after 5 minuets, petrol should not separate ,petrol should be clear with a hint of green.and no separation, ie different colours top and bottom of sample , if it separates the petrol is crap and scoot will run rough or not at all, while i had the panels off to empty the petrol tank i decided to check the valve clearances they were spot on, but i noticed a loose earth wire on the bolt that secures the valve cover, after draining/flushing tank(with fresh good petrol) refilled tank with good bp petrol and secured earth wire it now 
runs like new, maybe a bit of both caused the problem, hope this helps....ph

I had this problem for the past month. Bogged down hard under acceleration, cut out whilst idling. I couldn't get the carburetor screws off (Damn things stripped from Phillips heads to circles) so I changed the oil and put fuel injector/carburetor cleaner, then the scooter wouldn't start! Then I decided to change the spark plug, and HOORAY! It a huge part to the problem. CHECK YOUR SPARK PLUG AND CLEAN OUT THAT CARB! ? I'm running 100%better now, runs even faster now.

I have a 2004 125 Vino - 4 stroke, 1 carb... 

I recommend the following:

1) Change the spark plug first off!
2) Clean the carb jets, including the accelerator pump with carb cleaner.
3) Use compressed air to clean the jets (in my case), as well as any crevice/channel and the accelerator pump.

My scooter was running poorly 4 years ago - and I suspect now that it was because of the faulty spark plug... After sitting with bad gas, things came to an almost end for that scooter...  I'm wising up finally.  Now on to my CB750 with 4 carbs that hasn't run in years...

Good luck all - remember to always start with a fresh/new spark plug...
