I realized after I finished changing the oil on my 150cc scooter that the 10W-40 oil I just poured in it was the kind made for cars. Should I be draining it immediately and replacing with the motorcycle grade 10W-40? if not, after how many miles should I do that?

thats fine for it . The motorcycle oils are for the wet clutches in the gearbox on them. I run chevron delo 15-40 or valvoline 10-40 in my scooter.Everyone has their own preference . As for oil changes i'm overkill on mine i change it around 400 miles (cheap insurance) since it holds less than a quart. Ride Safe. Terry

i agree it wont hurt it at all. I used 4t oil for a long time and then it went to 12.99 a quart here in PR. I switched to Valvoline 10-40 and have no issues in 5000 miles.

99% do not use 4T oil, it is to expensive for one and it exists due to the wet clutch systems. So if you do not have a wet Clutch System you don't need to buy that stuff. Everyone uses auto oil I use 10w-40 Catrol GTX. Alleyoop

Yep, what they said. These scooters don't have wet clutches.

The basic difference from what I've read is that bike oil has more Zinc in it to protect hardened surfaces from wear. If you plan on hammering the heck out of it you might benefit from it. Otherwise I used car oil in my old Kawasaki for 125,000 miles and it didn't burn an ounce. By then you get darned tired of whatever you're riding and who cares if it won't go further?

But isn't running straight 30w oil the best because 10-30 or -40 have to much weight differences in it and could harm the system? Ive asked several repairmen Cabot it they all have said to me that 30w is the best for a scooter because it keeps the engine running the same temp consistancy.

Multigrade oils also have better lubrication on start, the thin oil coats faster...you don't see many cars running monograde oil these days...
Multigrade oils reach high viscosity very rapidly and they stay there... superior to monogrades in all ways...

My 04 Stella has a "wet clutch". Most of the 2 cycle Vespa's and Stella 2T's have 3 cork plates with 2 steel plates sandwiched between them inside the clutch basket . The oil lubracates them . I was told specifically to use 30wt non detergent for lubrication by a longtime Vespa and Stella owner . will c.

i use the motorcycle oil for the reason it is designed for an air cool motor most auto motors are water cooled so they dont need an oil that will take the extra heat from the motor like an air cool motor

I`ve never purchased motorcycle or scooter specific oil, always used auto 10/40 bought in gallon cans which is a lot cheaper than 4t oil. This was based solely on cost but I`ve never had an engine fail. Even the 2 stroke oil I`ve used has been from an agricultural merchants, about half the cost of scoot 2t, again never had a problem with it.
