whenever i take off from a stop i have to get up to 4000rpm before it even starts to move. and when i start to go it sounds like it switches into second gear and gets more power. is it supposed to do this? if not, could it be me going over 35 when it was brand new before it was broken in? what could that even do to my scooter?

sounds like your variator weights might be worn or sticking.

Agreed.....check your variator weights, and belt condition, and go from there.
