Hey everybody, just got into scootin, well actually my first two wheel ride was a 46 Cushman eons ago so am full circle I guess. All started recently when I bought my wife a 150cc Ruckus clone. Was just too cool so had to get me one. When I get into something I usually go at it in a big way so moddin the scoots started almost as soon as they were out of the crates. My clone has a 163cc BBK, matching big valve head, A10 cam, a newly added 30mm CVK style carb, the usual performance exhaust, intake, and unlimited CDI. Also running a Dr Pulley variator with 1K clutch and contra springs, with a Gates belt. Swapped the narrow stock wheels and tires for 3" wide wheels running 120/70/12 tires vastly improved handling. So am very pleased with the results! Moddin my Icebear Clone next so far have done an 80cc BBK with A9 cam and big CVK style carb. Made a real difference, but may just throw a modded 150cc in later. yes I welcome you too, I am new here myself. Been a car restorer and had a few bikes over the years. So how much extra oomph did that variator add?

Thanks for the welcome guys! Been really enjoying the scoot thing. Been in the motorbike scene for the last several years and of course ride M/Cs too. Had never really been into a GY6 before so just jumped in. Really like em!
alansd--all I read about the Dr Pulley vari was good stuff. A very nicely made piece, just seemed like a great place to start with variator tuning. Its larger offering a higher possible ratio with better ramp profiles. They also include shims to space the initial position of the faces giving Im guessing lower initial ratios. I haven't used them as I have plenty of low end. I have seen a similar vari from OKO for considerably less $$. I like OKO products so am sure its a good unit too. Clutch and contra springs also add quite a bit to the performance, but if the scoot is ridden in a lot of stop and go traffic be conservative there as higher engagement/disengagement speeds can be irritating. The 1K springs seem about as rad as I want to go for practical riding.

Thanks for the extra info. I am completely new to scoots and MC's. I have not ridden anything for over 35 years. I have some health issues that complicate things more. I have some more mods to do that I hope will relieve some of my difficulties. Fabricating, finding, modifying, and installing parts is difficult for me. I am getting it done slowly. Tomorrow will be a workday I hope.
