Hi guys Large pics: i41.tinypic.com/kd37ft.jpgi39.tinypic.com/29235mv.jpgi42.tinypic.com/15o8aoh.jpgi42.tinypic.com/33tmis6.jpgi41.tinypic.com/2q9dqfd.jpgi41.tinypic.com/2uqlsvq.jpgI bought a Roketa MC-08-50B 49 CC scooter for only $300 today I plan on fixing up but would like too keep it under 200.00. The thing looks rough, but seems to run ok. It has a little trouble going up some of the steeper hills, it drops to around 18-20mph (im not sure if that is common or not) It averages around 30 on flat land, and cruises down hill. Its been wrecked so some of the plastics in the back is literally duck-taped on and the lights are terribly sun damaged and the clear pieces are now yellow. It has 3,900 Miles on it, I was wondering if that was considered really high milage. The guy had no idea what year it came out. I plan on changing the gear oil, and engine oil very soon. I have no idea what kind of brand/type of oil too buy and unfortunately the scooter came with no manual. Any advice on what oils to buy would be awesome. And I was wondering where the oil filter was located and how it can be replaced? Is it like cars, is there a synthetic options? I was shopping around and noticed that e-bay may be my best bet for buying new lights/plastics for the rear end of the scooter.. but the plastic body pieces are like 80.00 and i feel like there are cheaper websites out there? And are the Chinese scooters universal or do i have to buy plastics for the specific brand? The gas gauge is stuck on empty as well, i put gas in it today after i bought it and it didn't move.. i figured it was probably a float The seat has also been broken off (go figure) I was probably just going to try to rig it some how. If anyone has any experience with the sun damage and has a fix (maybe a product, or home remedy) please let me know. Is it possible to fix the problems for under 200.00? - Horribly sun damaged light covers
- I think its going slower than it should be going up hills
- The part of the seat that is normally attached to the scooter has been broken off the hinges
- Plastic parts of the body are cracked and held on with duct tape, especially in the back
- Gas gauge always reads empty, im assuming the floats messed up because its pretty full.
And do junkyards normally carry scooter parts? My phones being stubborn right now and not uploading the pictures, but ill get them up as soon as I can. Thanks for the help, I have 0 experience with scooters but its a hobby i'd like to get into!

Horribly sun damaged light coversMothers headlight restoration kit-$20 I think its going slower than it should be going up hillsFor a 50cc scooter that's about right. The part of the seat that is normally attached to the scooter has been broken off the hingesOn mine there are bolts in the seat to secure with nuts through the hinge on the underseat bucket. My bolts pulled out of seat when I overtightened the nuts. I put the bolts back in with JB Weld epoxy and it's all good Plastic parts of the body are cracked and held on with duct tape, especially in the backReplacement pieces are available from a number of sellers. All the panels come from the same place in China. Many of the companies with flashing ads on the masthead can help. Also Roketa.com, GSmotorworks.com Also, JB Weld is your best friend. If the panels aren't too badly damaged you could rig up securing straps to replace the lost pieces and epoxy those on. Gas gauge always reads empty, im assuming the floats messed up because its pretty full. You have that right, unless the wire to the sensor has been disconnected. You will only know by checking in the fuel tank or remembering what the mileage was on your last fill up. Sadly most Chinese scooters don't have resettable trip meters, something motorcycles have used for years to track mileage. Oh, here. www.roketapartsdept.com/catalog/MC_08_BODY_PARTS-515-1.html

Thanks for the help, I just ordered some of the JB weld. I think i may take the duct tape off tomorrow and see what the damage is like lol. I may try re-painting the plastics if i can salvage them. I plan on changing the engine oil/Gear oil tomorrow I bought these at Walmart today, hopefully they are the right specs. Unfortunately my scooter didn't come with a manual. Gear oil: Super Tech(only brand availible) SAE 85W-140 Gear Lube API GL-5 Engine oil: Castrol GTX SAE 10W-40 motor oil
Do these sound right? I googled what to buy while i was in Walmart and this is what i came up with.
I was thinking about buying synthetic, but im afraid it may be to old.
*Update I think i found a small manual, and it recommends 85W-90 Gear oil, is it going to mess my scooter up if I put the 85W-140 in it? It had no information on engine oil. I think this came with the scooter, I found it in the scooter.. but it says nothing about roketa or the model some im not sure if the guy may have just bought and random manual and put it in there?

That's fine, the oil will work OK. Nothing is too old for synthetic oil, only too new. Unless the bike already leaks oil, then synthetic only makes it worse. I'm using synthetic in my 250 at 7700 miles without drama. You just have a renewal project on your hands. The fact that it runs makes everything else "Detail Work".
There is a wealth of info in our tech section and videos on Youtube about oil changes and valve adjustments, etc. No 3900 miles isn't old. Bite your tongue. If you look in my signature you'll see two of my Chinese bikes have twice that much.

Thanks a lot for the help, would you recommend that i switch to synthetic? I actually went to college for auto diagnosis/repair so I think it will be pretty easy to fix, especially with all the online resources.
and the gear oil will be ok even though its 140 and not 90?

140 too thick. No synthetic. Thy tend to leak and you have enough miles where it would be pointless now anyway.

Normally everyone uses 80w90 75w90 etc.. If you live In a hot place the 140 will help or if you hear a lot of gear noise back in the tranny the 140 will quiet them down. But it will not do any harm really just use up the 140 that you have and then next time buy lighter gear oil not a biggy. Alleyoop

I just ordered some parts from scooterparts4less.com and they've already shipped them out. And I got a nice note from Randy there thanking me for my order. They have a good website. It's designed to help you find what you need for your particular bike.
I'll let you know about the parts quality when I get them which should be in 2 or 3 days.
Also, Check this site (scooterdoc) in the library section. I'm sure you'll find some docs for your scooter. They have quite a bit.

The modular helmets are nice since you can adjust the amount of airflow and protection you want. I bought a carbon fiber looking unit about like the modular you have pictured on Ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/380491782034?item=380491782034&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OC:US:3160&vxp=mtrI paid about $44 with shipping. Helmet is good. Watch the fitting guidelines carefully, not all companies use the same size measurements. If in doubt order the next larger size, you can always add padding. They make a 4T oil specifically for scoots and motorcycles. This engine is an old design and needs additives not found in regular motor oil. Your plastic parts can be repaired using materials and kits purchased at any auto parts store. They are just a filled composite plastic like many auto parts are today.

Everything you looked up is good EXCEPT the belt, it may be the wrong size. You will need to take the CVT cover off and look on the current belt and the size will be printed on it. There are so many belt sizes it is best to check and see what is currently on it and then you can work from there. Alleyoop
