Update: Gas tank in, new fuel filter sensor in, fairing back on, carb out, all that is left is to put the carb in, adjust valves and carbs, put gas in, prime carb and try to start him up.... however its my day off and im pouty about wanting to deal with putting this damn carb in ( no fun ) and therefore watching an old movie through my scooter which is in the livingroom Attachments:

After sitting unused for the past year and very little use the year before that, would it be necessary to change the motor oil and or gear oil? and should I use seafoam with my first tank through, wait until my second tankful or not at all? Thanks

Sure change the oil not so much the tranny though, but the crankcase condensation probably sit in since it has not run for a long time. As for the seafoam sure you can put in 1 OZ per gallon won't hurt but just might help since the carb has been sitting dry for over a year. Alleyoop

Yes the Oil for the Crankcase is different than the Tranny oil. Crankcase most use 10Wx40 and Tranny Gear oil 75w90 or 80W90. Alleyoop

Oh, ok good. yeah I have done that before it's easy. Thanks Alley! working for an animal hospital I have access to tons of little squirter syringe things so I don't need to buy them to inject fuel into my carb to prime it or gear oil, . even though the pointy bottle is usually good enough for the angle to put it in :-)

I really thought having my scooter in the living room would get me to finally fix it but I could still see the TV through it so there it sat for 2 1/2 weeks. I can't for the life of me figure out why I put off fixing it so long since as of this moment he is running like brand new!!!!!! ;D Putting the carb in with the pain in the arse throttle cable I was dreading the most out of everything was easier this time around. I had to charge the battery for 5 yrs. Put new 93 gas in the new tank. Opened my manual fuel shut off switch and didn't even have to prime the carb! She stared after the 2nd try and stayed started. I made sure to have the throttle adjustment screw not screwed in that much so it wouldn't try to take off on my like last time I tried to start him up for the first time. Live and learn. So I just kept screwing it in more little by little until the rear wheel wanted to spin then screwed it back 1/4 turn. Took it for a ride around the block. No hesitation with acceleration, got it up to 35 , idles fine at stop signs. Wooooot I know my little girl dog is okay with the scooter, will have to see if my new little boy dog feels the same so i can pop them in the double dog back pack carrier and off to the dog park we go! YAY!! Thanks again for your help guys!

Thanks! but... more problems 11/4/13 - (yesterday) got it started for the first time in a year once i got it all fixed and parts replaced, was excited it started and after getting the idle right, rode it around the block. parked it at home and covered it. just a quick test ride but i felt the battery was charged up good since the battery charger's " full " light came on after 5 yrs of charging. 11/5/13 - (today) went to start it this morning and nothing, just a click, tried again and half a rev then nothing, tried again just a click. waited a couple minutes, half a rev then nothing, tried again just a click. I'm thinking solenoid cable loose? spark plug commit suicide from boredom after sitting for a year? battery loose its charge rapidly on its own over night for some reason? I tried it again, just a click, tried again, not even a click, tried again half a rev, pushed the bike back to my house ( i start it at the end of the driveway so as not to bother the other neighbors renting where I live property) and when i get to my house to park it and bike to work instead, i try to start it once more and it starts up and i ride to work and it runs great. its a 15 min ride to work. I i have decided not to ride it on my lunch break since it would only be a 5 min stop and go stop and go ride and i dont want to run down the battery if i dont need to. i can just walk to where i want to go on my lunch breaks. so the end of my work day comes and the same problem from this morning. had to keep trying to start it over and over, wait, try again for about 20 min. i decide to google to see if I can jump a scooter from a car safely and see if anyone has jumper cables. i find my answer... tell me if this is correct... > > I read you can safely jump a scooter from a car but the car has to be off, you hook up the car to the cables, then cables to scooter batter and wait 3 min then try to start scooter as usual then as soon as it starts immediately take cables off of scooter battery. just encase i ever need to in the future... i move my scooter around the parking lot at work a little, the parking lit has a slight slope, i try to start it facing up the slope, then down the slope, thinking maybe if there is a loose wire moving it will make it go back to where it needs to go to. still no go, then im about to see if someone will jump it and i try one more time and it starts up, i hold on the throttle for about 30 seconds then take off and drive home . it runs just fine for the drive home. im going to guess at this point the battery didnt hold charge. can a new battery sit for a year, be fully charged then work well once or twice then loose its charge? could it need to be charged twice since it was so dead? stupid question, but im trying to figure out what in the world is going on. can a new spark plug go bad just from sitting for a year? it sat outside in FL, but was covered. i think ill bike to work tomorrow but should i throw it back on the charger again? (its not a trickle charger its just one that goes from orange light to green light when full ) PS - not a huge deal but also couldnt get the kick start to work and the new fuel sensor guage i installed doesn't do s**t either. blah. (ya its plugged in too) thanks!!

That is the correct way to jump start off of a car battery except you don't need to wait for 3 minutes before trying to start the scooter.
Yes, a battery can go bad after setting for a year. You may be able to charge it but if it has a bad cell it can loose it's charge overnight. If you have a meter charge your battery and check it's voltage. It should read between 12.5 to 13 volts DC. Let the battery sit for 24 to 48 hours and see it the reading changes. If it does (reads lower) then the battery is not holding a charge and needs to be replaced.
You could also have a loose connection on your battery or a loose ground wire at the frame on on the engine.
Hope this helps you. Hang in there. You will get this fixed!

Yep dollar to donuts the battery has gone south. Not being charged for over a year they usually will go bad. Alleyoop
