I woke up to the battery light showing fully charged. I replaced the spark for the hell of it, the old one didn't look great so Im glad I did. Haven't tried to start it yet but will for work tomorrow morning. If it doesn't work I'll ust bike to work. Oh and I did this too... When I first moved to Miami and got my 1st scooter I didn't have a ton of tools or things fix my scooter properly. I had to cut a hole in the bottom of my seat to get to the manual fuel shut off switch I installed in a new custom build fuel system. I didn't have a saw, only a drill so I drilled a bunch of holes and punched out the middle. I finally have a jigsaw so I was able to clean up those jagged/ragged edges. What a difference having the correct tools makes! LOL! And yes I use zipties like a whore. LOL. Had to have them all placed in certain angles to hold the fuel lines in a certain position and keep the switch still so it wouldn't pull on the lines when I turn it more than once a day.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!! Scooter Still Will Not Start... Okay so on December 29th I put the new battery in and it would not start out of the box so I put it on the charger and after about 10 hours the charger light showed that it was full. This was the morning of December 30th. I did not start the scooter after taking it off the charger. I put a new spark plug in for crapz n giggles and glad I did since the old one looked kinda crappy. I still did not start the scooter after this since I didn't need to take it anywhere until the first. This brings me to this morning. I turned on the gas and tried to start the scooter and nothing, tried again and just a click, tried again and about 1/8th of a rev, tried again and it reved a few times but pretty slow ( sounded like a dieing battery ) Could new battery actually lose its charge after it was full charged and just not used for a couple of days? Does charging a new battery by going for a 30 min ride charge it up differently than just being on a charger? I don't know if I got a dud new battery or what. Should I just pop it on the charger again ? I'm assuming. I don't feel like I should need to charge a new battery every time I want to use my scooter. With my last scooter ( same make/model) my battery was fine for at least 6 mo to a year and sometimes I used it a few times a day ( pretty short, 10 min trips too) and sometimes not for a few days but never had any issues with it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

First off, does the kick starter function? It's always a good test to see if that will start it. Second, does the brake light glow brightly when you pull the lever? Third, can you get at the solenoid? I would try jumping that and see what happens. It will eliminate a host of other elements and give you a place to start looking. You could have a bad ground. Check the lead from the battery to the valve cover to the frame.

No My kick start hasn't worked since I got it. I'll check the brake light tonight, its super bright out so can't tell how brightly it may be glowing. Ya the solenoid is right on the side. I don't have jumper cables to jump it from someone's car. I replaced a solenoid on my car when I was a teenager which wasn't hard and it shouldn't be hard with the scooter either. it looks simple so maybe ill do that soon. I'll check the lead from the battery in a bit. Thanks!

Dude, when I say jump the solenoid I mean lay a screwdriver across the two terminals to see if the starter spins. Rich and Alley have pictures and diagrams of the procedure on another thread. This one. scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=250cc&action=display&thread=9147You see the two wires Alley has a picture of? Lay the screwdriver across the two nuts and see what happens.

im prepared for sparks, im just afraid of a shock. my screw driver has a good thick rubber handle so i think ill be okay.
should i even bother putting the battery back on the charger to see how long it takes until it shows full? it did sound like it was reving kind of slow the one time it was trying to turn over. its weird, ever since ive had these battery problems when i try to start it , it will do nothing, then just a click then it will start ( back when it was starting at all) so im wondering if its a combo battery problem AND starter problem.
Alley, know any good PWC ( wave runner message boards off hand? ) lol that will be my next learning experience in small engine mechanics. I'm looking to get a wave runner since I live on water now and since the cost of a new wave runner has dropped by about $2-3,000 !

More than likely it's a solenoid problem. Doing the terminal jump will tell you. No don't charge the battery. It's new and should have enough life, unless it's defective, to spin the starter. Even more likely it's a loose connection at the solenoid.

WOW A Wave Runner, now how are you going to trailer it onto the water or do they have slips for them that you rent out and keep them there year round. As far as the motors go they are basically the same if you know you one motor you know them all. Just maybe different parts for them. But they all need Filters, Gas, same as your scoot motor so you have an up on that part of it(HEHE).
They just suck in water and push it out instead of turning a wheel they turn an impeller basically a wheel as well. So knowing one you will know the other same with Snowmobils. Alleyoop

I will be buying and having a swing arm wave runner lift installed on the sea wall behind my house. Can't believe the landlord okayed it but he's cool and I told him he could keep it with the property should I ever move out to increase the value and speed renting it out to another. Lots of wave runner people here in miami. I plan on staying here for a very long time though since I love it. I will be having the wave runner delivered by water and should I want to move it, like take it down to the keys a couple times a year im renting from a jeep place that has hitches on their rentals and renting a trailer and dolly. Right now im researching how to maintain and flush the wave runner since you have to each time after a ride in salt water. the swing arm is 180 degrees so it will be over the grass for flushing, maintaining and fixing. ill also be getting the AAA for boats should I get stuck out there in the ocean. Its a different company than AAA but same thing. I got AAA for the scoot! That's good to know. I'm excited. **** should i bother trying to put the battery back on the charger to see how long it takes to get to full charge? ( how depleted it got since 3 days ago and only trying to start it 3x )?

Very COOL!! right out your back yard. Now watch out for the gators(HEHE). Also always carry a paddle with you in case it konks out when your to far away from land, you do not want to be in the water pulling it or pushing it. Alleyoop

Sure why not, doesn't hurt and you will know how depleted it got just trying to start it 3 times. Now why won't it start is it getting gas have you checked for spark Etc.. you do have the KILLSWITCH on the run position right? Squirt some gas straight into the VACUUM PORT on the INTAKE MANIFOLD it should fire at least once and may start. But if it does then you know it is a fuel delivery problem. Alleyoop
