Oil Filter

Well, I hit that 300km mark and it's time to change the oil and filter. Or I thought we were supposed to change the filter. I already changed out the oil once fresh out of the shop. Online PDI's and the shop both recommended this.
Now I can't seem to find an oil filter for my model, the CY 150 D Lancer. Do I have one of those mesh screens? How hard is it to mess with?

If its a GY6 150cc... It has a screen mesh filter . Its a 17mm large bolt lookin thingy about the center of the bottom of the engine. First drain it on the drivers side of the scooter, its a lateral mounted 17mm plug. Then pop the 17mm on the bottom. Theres a large flange on the oil filter bolt and the oil filter element. Make sure the rubber washer part of the oil filter is down when ya put the filter back in..Keeping in mind theres a spring in there too. Small end goes up, big end down, I use brake cleaner on my filter.. Also U Tube has several vids on this..Its easy.. I leave my filter and plug out, kill switch off, and spin the engine about 5 secs to blow any extra oil out. I use castrol 15-40.. Mine works well with 3/4 of a quart btw

Ok, I'm a little confused. I've changed the oil twice now on my GY6 150cc, at 50 miles & at 150 miles (trike has 250 on it now). Will change the oil again soon, before riding season. I've never drained the "drivers side", & both times it took the proper amount of oil to fill it back up. So I don't think I'm missing any oil during drain. Wasn't even aware that there even is a second drain plug. In the video Alley posted the gal only drains from the main plug. Assuming my engine has this additional plug (it's dark & cold here right now, I'll check later today), how much additional oil should I expect to drain from there?

No additional if you're opening the screen plug. It's the lowest point in the engine. I never use the drain, just the screen plug.

Thanks KZ, thought I might have been missing something. Anybody know what is the purpose of this secondary drain plug?

What I do is use the Filter Screen Drain since it is the lowest point and never open the plug on the CVT side. That side has a copper washer and if overused will leak. While the Screen side plug has a rubber O-Ring and has a better chance of not leaking. Also after it stops draining I put my kill switch on and crank the motor over about 2 times and more oil comes out then I button it up and fill it. Alleyoop

i have no choice but to use the filter plug. dumb@ss at the factory tightened it so much you can't budge it even with a small breaker bar. probably best not to try now as I might bring the block threads out with it.

Just did one on a Yamaha 125 Breeze (scooter not ATV). I used the small drain plug on the side of the sump to get most of the oil out first, and I didn't initially take off the filler plug to slow the flow while I was removing the plug. The opposite of the usual advice, IOW.
That way you don't get your bare hand covered in so much carcinogenic used oil.
Like this guy (!)
That wouldn't be so serious for me, since I don't do this every day, but still better avoided.
Wearing gloves is, let me guess.....for pussies?

There are some areas of the case that won't drain through the screen plug even though it's the lowest point. It's not much and I doubt that it would ever make a difference. But being OCD I have to take the side drain off, and then go wash my hands 22 times.....exactly 22 times. I have a post of a guy that installed a spin on oil filter on a GY6. You can read about it right here.

thats a neat idea. bet his oil stays a lot better. might be able to go 2x the mileage unless you were concerned with heat deterioration of the oil.
