The only difference I have found is in a gold wing synthetic did shift a tad easier. I have found oil leaks I did not have before with syn. I put mobil 1 into a almost new 79 gmc and ran around 6-7000 miles and had to pull the valve covers and rod out the oil return holes as they were gunked up. I have nothing now that has or will have syn oil in it. Been running casteroil in every thing I own. Tomorrow when I go in for oil change with car I will end up with a 1/2 quart left over, it takes 4 1/2 quarts and it will go in my ford tractor. The car does not use a drop between changes and has around 130k on it.
I stand corrected I have 142k on the malibu, just got oil change!

I also live in SoCal (San Diego), and personally choose synthetic to run in my well broken in scooter. I have been doing some longer rides with hills lately. Over 50 miles a few time a week. I was just a little amazed when I made some statements about well known facts, and received answers like "there is a little more too it than that". If so explain please, don't just be rude. We are here to help and amuse each other.

Not likely to garner you friends here... itistheride.boards.net/thread/5640/all-scooter-forums-created-equalFYI molecular structure of synthetic oil is smaller and much more uniform resulting is a more "slick" surface" but its 3:00 am so I must be hammered. If everyone under the sun agrees that dino oil for breakin before synthetic then one can surmise that dino allows engine wear to some extent. (I had 4 cups of coffee before coming to that conclusion) Seriously Im a fan for posting the same topic on differnt forums for DIVERSITY, not to criticize one forum to another. I can assure you that this is a much more technical based forum than the rest of them. If you felt you were right in your observations why did you bother posing the question anyway? Its a 300.00 motor and can be replaced all day long so whats the big deal? The big deal is explaining why you need to replace rings that didnt seat right on a new motor and wonder where all that expensive oil is going.

I will say this: as long as you have oil in your engine and change it when you should there is nothing to worry about. People will argue about what oil is best forever and yet I do not think it is possible in this day and age to buy a bad oil. Even the cheapest oil there has the auto manufactures rating.

twowheeler: The truth is after watching forums come and go for the last 6 years, there are a few guys that provide the major support for almost all the informative forums. You know the guys, some are admins on multiple forums. Pretty much most of the useful information comes from these few guys. The difference between forums are the regular members. How do they interact? Do they treat new members nicely? Are there frequent posters that use the forum to amuse themselves at the expense of others by spreading incorrect information? Not all forums are equal. The tech info is the same. The members make the difference.
Case in point: We use regular oil during break in, not because it allows more wear, we use it because it is cheap to dump during break in. Why dump $8/qt oil when you can dump $2/qt oil? It is going to get dumped one way or the other.
SAE offers classes, so does API.

I would end this with: Use whatever oil your little heart desires. Everyone has their opinion and well swear by what they are using, not that they are right or wrong it is just that is what they believe and read. Now every company will advertize their oil as being the greatest thing since slice bread, but you have to take it as a grain of salt it is advertizing, they want you to buy their oil and not someone else's oil.
Very simple isn't it USE WHATEVER OIL YOUR LITTLE HEART DESIRES, Change it whenever you want and or feel it should be changed etc.. etc.. Alleyoop

Some truth to what you say here but here is what gets me? I don't find it amusing when someone has a problem, something to say, something they don't like, etc. and instead of trying to resolve the problem, etc. where the thread started they go to "another" forum no matter if some are on all the forums or not and air out what they don't like elsewhere.
Got something to say about any subject here then by all means let's hear it but remember some people frequent only one forum and could care less what's going on at another and sharing info that is useful and informative is great but complaining about what you don't like elsewhere is off base and not necessary.

yes, and TW is an exact example of it. hopping on different forums using different usernames to spread the bad smell of another forum. not a good practice.

I don't find the top statement amusing or helpful.
