Maybe I'm just a girly man. Maybe I'm just not doing it correctly. I tried to kick-start the scoot as a contingency exercise. I wanted to make sure that if I ever found myself with a dead battery, I'd be able to get it started. NOPE. Didn't even come close. Any tips? screen.yahoo.com/pumping-hans-franz-patrick-swayze-000000654.html

I had a 50cc Lance that somebody moved the kickstart lever to the conventional, "Perpendicular to the ground" location. It started on one kick every time, OK, maybe two. At first I pulled the brake lever, then found it didn't need it. Since it won't be in the way, I would put it in the motorcycle position and try that. I couldn't get my 150 to start with it and took it off before I discovered the "motorcycle secret". I always thought I'd smack my shin on the way down and only gave a half hearted kick. Also no, or slight throttle.

KZ did you ever put it back on the 150?,,mine is more of a "paddle" than a true kickstart lever,,,,,so moving it higher may or may not work ,,i'll check it out and see if the splines on the shaft are not interupted so i can rotate it up a bit maybe that will help,,because it does seem like i'm not able to give it enough stroke,,,,

Nope, I left it off. Call me a cockeyed optimist but I have faith that the scooter will start on the button. If the Japanese can leave kickstarters off their bikes, why not me?

My GY-6 equipped Scoot starts fine with the Kick Start Paddle. I have only used it in fair Weather tho. Maybe a Tip here, Like trying to Kick Start the Newer Four Stroke M/Xer's, Slowly kick it through to the Compression Stroke then give it a good Kick.

I never ever tried to start my 150 with the kicker. Had used it to turn engine when setting valves though, saved pulling a cover.

I've had to use the kick starter before, and it wasn't easy. These motors must have some compression or something. I actually broke the gear off the shaft on that Sunl 150 I used to own, trying to start it. These scoots have barely adequate batteries and starters that barely get the job done with a good battery. Knowing I was going to have to spend money, I bought a 12AH battery to replace the 9AH original battery, and welded the gear back on that kick starter shaft, and had no more problems.
I try to take it easy on the kick starter, having broke one, so if my battery is a little down, I use the kick starter to "assist" the electric starter. Once the motor starts to spin, the electric starter will usually spin it until it starts. You won't find that one in the book, but it works for me!
Just as a "rule of thumb", if my starter "grunts" more than a couple of times, and I know my electrical system is in good shape, I am changing my oil! It doesn't take much heat to make the oil in these air-cooled motors start to break down. A fresh quart of oil is cheaper than a fresh rebuild...

Well two opinions here one says push it through the compression stroke then kick the pants out of it or kick the pants out of it on the compression stroke. I say get the dang electric working and save yourself a knee jerk besides the kick starters are flimsy and very easy to go south on the scoots then you will have TWO none working start functions. I've never gotten a 150 to kick start. I've kick started a TaoTao ATM 50 a couple of times. I've had a two stroke Vino and an Elite 50. Those kicked started the first time every time. Something about Japanese quality.

in the cold mornings two or 3 firm kicks . I park inside at work where it is heated it starts first kick and might stall and will stay running on the second kick .

Try kicking it of the scooter? Try it once hot. I no on my scooter it will not start with the kick stand down but will start with the big kick stand that pull the rear tire of the ground.
